Re: Weekend Speed games
If it was vastly different to the standard version i would consider it, but if tick speed was only difference then no.
i would like to see things like golden roid, all those trial suggestion things put into the game.

Re: Weekend Speed games
You should put up a new PA world cup, with reasonable ship stats.

Re: Weekend Speed games
This idea should replace the dull havoc that occurs at the end of each round. Although havoc is merely for fun, it is quickly dominated by a tag containing the most active players.
Havoc soon becomes boring as it's the same game play as the round that has just ended, but with faster ticks and mass resources distributed. Add an element of 'colour' and people will enjoy it more.
We do however have something similiar to speedgames which occurs around each Christmas time, and is known as 'the winter round'. This is played and enjoyed by a higher number of players than havoc.
My suggestion would be to have more of these 'winter rounds'. Maybe have a 'summer' and a 'winter' round?

Re: Weekend Speed games
I would be sad enough to play a speedgame.
Havoc takes too long for ticks & days!
With a reward as Pais suggests it could be pretty swell!! But let Jagex put the reward in without us all paying for the rights to play!

Re: Weekend Speed games
Speedgames are constantly running via speedgame.planetarion.com on a set of stats that changes on an adhoc basis ...
don't even need to pay to play

Re: Weekend Speed games
Does anyone actually play those games, and don't they last relatively long?

Re: Weekend Speed games
PA OLYMPICS!!!
Alliance=Country (Teams of 10 maybe??)
Have a set of things to do...
Research based achievements, attacking accomplishments, defensive accomplishments, construction achievements, Golden Roid, Structure Killing
But all within the team, you get progressive score as you get closer to each achievement with the team that gets there first getting a bonus score for doing so...
Kind of like a decathlon/heptahalon.
Maybe:
1) Complete the tech tree
2) Get to 250 Constructions
3) Steal 30k roids
4) Make 100 fleets recall on your team
5) Whoever holds the Golden Roid at a certain tick gets bonus points (this could happen every 250 ticks??)
6) Kill 50 Enemy Constructions
7) Top Player, Team (scorewise) at Tick End.
Whichever team has the most points at tick end gets the Gold, 2nd Silver, 3rd Bronze.
It would mean that as a team you have to still play for each other with decent planets whilst having specific members trying to rush cons and research for points.

Re: Weekend Speed games
It wont be implemented ... maybe if PA survives to the next Olympics
It could be something cool to do in the summer tho... there is a real drop off in players between July and August so maybe have a 10 week round break during this time and have this running as a 3 week special for the more commited in the middle Like a yearly thing... half price credit entry or maybe you pay £20 for your team. Jagex/PA Team could maybe get some prizes together for it... Mugs., t-shirts or whatever. As we use the passport system now maybe medalists could have their corresponding medal after there planet name on galaxy/player rankings pages

Re: Weekend Speed games
Current speedgames are all 2 day cycles (1 day of 30 second ticks, 18 hours of havoc, reset, 6 hours downtime). Sometimes no one plays them, sometimes we have up to 5 or so people playing, rarely more.
I think we'd need more idea as to how the olympics would work, or if it'd just be a normal private-galaxy world cup named after the olympics

Re: Weekend Speed games
I would break it down into sections.
For example with Research the Tech Tree...
5 points for Jumpgate, 10 points for Warpate, 15 points for Stargate, 20 points for Hypergate. Completing the TT Research gives you an additional 10 points. Do that in each area. Your team can only get points once so even if you all have Warpgate you will only have 15 points as a team. The team who manage to complete the whole tech tree get a bonus 250 points.
With constructions you do the same but with points handed out at rising incrementals, 10, 25, 50, 100, 150, 200, 250... whichever teams reaches 250 constructions first gains a bonus 250 points.
Roid stealing would be the same, maybe 30k is a bit high for teams of 10 in hindsight, maybe 10-15k is a better limit. Maybe make it so its captured roids not passing a total you currently have. Same again tho with incrementals. 3k roids is 10 points, 6k is 20k points, 10k is 50 points and 15k is 100 points first team to reach that gets a bonus 250 points.
Anyway you get the idea... it is probably a coding nightmare and will never see the light of day but maybe it could be a fun one-off or better still a yearly event. Kind of like a end of year playoff to find the best in PA
Definatly think 30 min ticks and a 3 week round would be good, maybe pushing etas out by 2 ticks for each class so people still have time to respond. That way it wouldnt eat it peoples lives like havoc or a speed round but still have a pacey feel

Re: Weekend Speed games
I kind of understand the idea; depends how integrated you want it to be, it could be a lot of recoding for what's basically a one off?

Re: Weekend Speed games
Not private galaxies as that kills the defensive nature of the game. Just set it so that your shuffled into your alliance at tick 12, use the buddy codes that way. NO exiling either, it is how it is from the tick 12 shuffle. Each alliance costs £20, maybe have it as costing 10 credits with each credit costing £2, then everyone in the team can pay into it or 1 or 2 people can pay for the whole thing.
I never saw how the world cup played but i assume it was just private galaxies and a race to see who had the fattest score, that wouldnt work with the olympics, breaking it down into areas of excellence and making you have to setup your team up for certain tasks (research rushing, cons rushing, cr/bs rushing for SK's) and still have good planets to get Top Team/Player would bring different tactics into the game. Maybe also remove PL for the round so that different timezones would maybe launch as a unit at different times.

Re: Weekend Speed games
Why couldnt it replace the dead speed game??? NO one plays it so surely you could recode that and just roll it out every year as something fun to play in the summer when large scale activity drops off. I think having an extended summer down time of the main game would help people refresh and recharge batteries for the normally more active winter months anyway. This could be the perfect remedy to those who need to be playing in that time. If it had rewards on offer to then who knows... it might actually take off.
If your charging £20 a team aswell if you get 15 teams then thats £300 for 3 weeks work
I called it Olympics because that is whats on at the moment but it doesnt necessarily have to be that, it could be 'The Masters' or ' The World Cup' or anything you want to call it...
Appocomasters Legends Tournament for example

IF IF IF IF IF IF...
You repeated yourself, that each team would pay 20£ to sign up....
I just don't see this happening 15 times, if at all...
Why should a heavily neglected community pay even more, to a company that couldn't care less about the current playerbase?
If credits has to cost, then atleast cut down the regular credit cost in half or more imo.

Re: Weekend Speed games
Did you actually read the above posts??
INSTEAD OF A NORMAL CREDIT... charge £20 for a team, make credits £2 each... so 10 credits = 1 team... then each member of the team can purchase 1 credit or a couple of people can buy the whole thing..
Its ideas TheoDD - im trying to think of something cut price that could run instead of a normal round allowing people an extended break when the weather is nice. Jagex would need income still from the game if they extended downtime from the proper round.
I think at the cost of £20 for a team their would be a lot of intrest in it tbh...
Remove upgraded accounts for it but give everyone autoreporting... just no upgrade bonuses

Re: Weekend Speed games
i do not want to pay 2 pound for a 3 week game of planetarion that is going to be exactly the same as normal planetarion just with even LESS people. the LESS people comes from the planets who do not UPGRADE their accounts in the first place.

Re: Weekend Speed games
You pay 5 for a 7 week game, don't you? Seems like a fairly reasonable price to me.

Re: Weekend Speed games
If your having to organise a group of 10 to play together and having to pay to have that team then atleast the whole universe that plays will be active as they have some money invested in it.
And i actually think it wouldnt be like 'normal' planetarion. The fact the winners are decided not on score but on points achieved in different areas means that you cant play your normal game. People will have to branch off to do different things and be protected from doing so...
I mean will your team have a covoper specifically designed to research hack and blow up cons to give your team a better chance of winning in those areas? Will you only have 1 person aiming for each area or will you have a backup? Can you afford to have too many people stuck on specific tasks? when you still need to attack and defend?

Re: Weekend Speed games
Its not meant to be a normal round of PA, i think thats what your missing Blue_Esper. It would be a 3 week special and would have prizes. It would like it to run instead of PA, giving normal PA an extended downtime. Jagex would still need income for that to happen and thats a way to solve it.
