Winter Solstice
Today is a day I look forward to every year.
Today is the depth of darkness in the northern hemisphere. I like sun and warm weather. Today begins the slow climb back to sun and warm weather. Today hope is reborn. Today I feel that I have once again triumphed over the forces of nature.
I think there should be some sort of pagan festival to commemorate this day. But what could we call it?

You probably say that in summer about winter. Only using winter terminology.

Yes, I live in Minnesota but we rarely get snow before October.
Even then we tend to ignore the stuff that melts right away. We've had a few flakes a couple of times this year but nothing serious until today, which is 4-6 weeks later than normal. :/

Re: Winter Solstice
In my 60 years, it has snowed in Stockton twice where it stayed on the ground long enough to notice.
The past few nights it has gotten down to the mid-20's. I don't know what I'd do if I lived some place where it truely got cold.
