Cheaters uncovered vol2
It was 2.5 years ago when I made this thread:
http://pirate.planetarion.com/showthread.php?t=165602
A few days ago I checked all threads started by myself and I only found this one. Yet this seems to be a very good idea and I'm amazed why it hasn't been implemented yet. Especially now when PA has evolved and making something like this shouldn't be a problem and would make different alliances to control their memberbase. Plus who would want to be in the alliance with most closed planets, noone, I hope.
Anyway, the situation has changed. The reputation system and AD/PD moderators make trolling on boards hard, mostly even impossible. Yet my two other points simply rock:

|
So, just like in my last thread, I propose a list of all cheaters who have been closed and/or deleted by the admins. The list should have coords, reason, date and of course the alliance of the cheaters. PA also has an ingame nick system so the list might even have the nick, even though it might not be the right one. I propose that the alliance HCs or officers of the top5 ingame alliances should be able to modify (or rather add their version to) the nick part. So there might be 5 different nicks with alliances which have suggested them behind them. The top5 alliance should be enough, they most likely have the best intel in the game also.
This idea is rather robust and general at the moment. I hope that other forum users could add their own suggestions or ideas. I couldn't think of anything else at the moment. Thanks!

I do like this idea - and the list would be good placed at the portal because it would show that planetarion means a fair competition and that cheating isnt allowed.

I can vaguely imagine people using fake nicks and intentionally getting accounts deleted. I know that there could be a price (say if this feature was limited to paid accounts only), but it could be worth it for propaganda purposes.

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
This reminds me of programs here in the states where drunk drivers have to spend time doing public trash removal or whatever while wearing "I'm a drunk driver" signs. I suppose it would be amusing if nothing else, but it might provide a disensentive to people to cheat in the future, but then again changing your nick is pretty easy, so I'm not too optimistic it would be really helpful. But it certainly couldn't hurt!

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
its not a new idea, it wasnt implemented while i was in pateam because it was felt that naming people while they were closed could jeapordise any future chances they would have should they succeed in their appeal against closure. Mud sticks etc.
I cant see any problems with pateam making it known who has been deleted for cheating though - just so long as people who have been attacked / defended against by them etc dont all start demanding compensation for their actions - which would be virtually impossible to give, considering chaos theory.
aint no way of calculating the exact amount of 'compensation' needed.
if the complete list was only made available at the end of a round, it would get around this problem elegantly

With the new one-account-for-everything coming in PA:N, this would be abolished Go PA:N!

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
And also, we should include whether they do drugs, or if they have ever been members of the communist party or if they have more than 5 gb of porn or if they belong to religious cults... Yes, this feature will be very good, while it might not stop cheating AT ALL (this I think we all agree, is relative and evolutive), it will certainly breed hate and divide us, leaving our ranks a bit more purified and with the very few of us who remain loyal and inmaculate.
I prefer to wait for the PAN, see what happens, before we go marking players/i.p. in a true fascist spirit.
(also, remember a lot of new players tend to be multi when they first discover the game and before they make the "pay" leap.)

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
it might decrease the amount of cheating, as noone wants to see their name (ingame nick) on the portal with a note that he was cheating. and it should be public so ppl visiting the portal see that the part "cheating is not allowed in the game" is more than a sentence of the eula - that it is really meant that cheating is not tolerated.

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
heh isn't it against the rules from jolt anywyas to publish any info someone uses to sign up with?
besides that... what would happen?
no offence to anyone but HK what did exi do with exi people that got closed? where they kicked/banned/refused to ever enter again or was the general opinion they didn't really cheat and it was some mix up? (same goes for all other alliances too, but HK started the post)
if all those alliances would simply not allow it anymore it would happen alot less, dc's can often easily see cheaters at work or bc's... but they don't report it either. (mostly)

It is indeed a good idea imo, i've had plans to do a non-official "blacklist" of sorts for PA:N. I would certainly prefer pa team hosting one though, save me the effort

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
There isn't really alot we could give out, since the only real info we would have on them that we can give you with out breaking data protection and our own NDA's would be thier coords and the reason why it happened, posibly thier IRC nick, if it was actually their real one they contacted us with.
All of this is easily changable information. They could easily hide themselves.
Also if you read the #multihunters topic you will see this:
"The MH will NOT discuss cases other than with the owner of the account to which they concern"
Sorry, but it's a bad idea in my opinion.

I'm not talking about exi purely once again before you make some post about that or 1up. i do indeed mean 1up aswell and angels and nd and all those other alliances out there. people will still allow people in who cheated in the past. It's that simple.
but glad to see you still love to whine at 1up as soon as you get a chance

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
One possible thing todo would be to do a count at the end of the round and see how many planets were removed due to cheating and what alliance they all belonged to.
Then release that "status" listing each alliance and how many planets of each that had been removed. No coords or nicks, just the names of the alliances and planetcount.
Doing this i doubt we'd be breaking any of the rules which applies to us.
And who knows, might make alliances a bit more carefull about having cheaters among their ranks.

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
I've changed my mind. I dont agree to name and shame as it might implicated innocent people who havent gotten their case tried properly. After all we are all human and we can all do mistakes...
(like for example when an overeager MH decided to close all the multi planets in the beta that was either a) created because Appocmaster wanted to test the exception system or b) made because of that some didnt know that their old beta planets were still up and running. Accidents do happen, and if we name and shame innocent people the multihunting system will for me personally hold no value.

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
First of all, creating an avenue where players who are caught flat out cheating after the fact isn't an improper disclosure of anything.
here's an example...... you write a bad check, a lot of stores where I live will not only post a copy of your check, they will post a copy of your drivers license, in a place, where it is in plain view to all.
If the multi hunters have valid evidence to close a planet, then at the end of the round I see absolutely no reason making that information public knowledge.
No one is asking for their sign up information. They make their IRC nick available to all, the minute they agree to the terms of the netgamers sign up, second, posting their coords, and irc nick, and alliance violates no privacy laws.
If you cheat, your ass should be called out, simple as that.
Alliance HC's don't ALWAYS know when their members are doing something against the games rules. And unless that planet is closed, they aren't told of any investigations. Once it's closed, they are informed in game after the fact.
I realize that in the past that may not have been the truth for every situation, but in fairness we must proceed with the assumption that it is, until proven otherwise on a case by case basis.

which is why.... this information isn't published until after a round has ended, thus, they know who will be re-opened, and who would not be re-opened
as for 1up's response to a member being closed.......in general.....they would need to wait, until the case has seen it's end, and react accordingly based on the merits of the case.

Re: Cheaters uncovered vol2
With all suggestions like these, i wonder if having an official list with people's nicks on them might actually encourage cheating - its normal human behaviour to see a list and then want to be on top of it; whether its for being a 'bad guy' or whatever. I wonder if people will start multiple planets in an effort to get deleted solely to get onto the cheater's top 10 - if anything, it might liven up someone's round when, say, a block war turns rediculous. So, just assuming that having a shame list will deter cheating; i am no so sure.
And what about those many players who are not well known out there on IRC and/or these forums, who have no forum or alliance or irc nickname - granted, if they are cheating then they should be deleted - but what should they be called? The Unknown Cheater?
I quite liked the idea (above) that suggested having a count of the number of planets within each alliance who are deleted for cheating. Having said that, there should be a mechanism that prevents alliances from kicking people as soon as it becomes apparent that the planet is about to be deleted, as that would defeat the purpose entirely.

This reminds me of a guy in my alliance last round. he got closed and deleated 3 or 4 times in 1 round (seriously and no joke (he signed up again everytime he got deleated)) - but not for cheating. so you might be right^^

Sounds like a great idea, and if there are any problems with it I don't see the problem in adding one extra thing in the EULA.

Addendum to EULA:
By accepting this agreement you agree to having your real name adress and phone number published in the event that you break the game rules. You will recieve postcards every day, saying you're a cheater and can't be trusted, so that your parents or girlfriend will see them in the mail.
