Planetarion World Cup
Introduction
Theres been a number of people who have spoken on IRC and have openly said that this round, due to holidays, looking after children and other summer related things is a factor in the numbers for this round being slightly lower than before.
So I give to you : The Planetarion World Cup
Format
* Galaxies can be organised via Country mix with Buddy Packs (see below) as opposed to randomly.
* Buddy Packs of 5 players, with 4 Buddy Packs per gal ensures both
a) an active gal for all
b) equal country representation
* Because the UK players make up quite a bit of the PA signups, we use England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and Eire
* Game to be run on Speedgame format over a weekend, no special roids
* Top x amount of countries from each galaxy goes thru to a knockout stage, where the process is repeated again but with lesser numbers
Good Things
* If Jolt were to be so kind, make it free
* Winners get staggered Credits for next round - ie 5 credits for winner, 3 for 2nd place, 1 for 3rd place
* A chance to represent your country
* Spread over weekends so more easier to control if your playing or not
* Speedgames are always fun
Bad Things
* Might lead to 1 country having a dominance
Your thoughts please!

Re: Planetarion World Cup
there arent enough people in other countries to adequately 'balance out' the large number of players from the uk really. the fairest way would be to divide people up into countries by where they're from, and then plug in the gaps with players from other countries as a 'surrogate' , based on the closest country to them ( to try and get the timezones close )
but even then it wont be as it once was

Re: Planetarion World Cup
Indeed, or for those countries who arnt listed / used, they could seek "immigration" to them.
Would make the game more of a community again as opposed to alliance based

Re: Planetarion World Cup
The problem would be is it running for the whole weekend, if not when are the breaks going to be so thats its fair on all countries. What about the start and end times your potentially giving some players an advantage others a disadvantage. How would you account for these factors and make it so its balanced?

An allianceleague could also be fun. Put all the alliances into galaxies of their own.

This is why we would split up the countries mixed with others and would be run as the main game is using the Game time. It is also the way which other speedgames are run

ah so your saying 1 person from UK, one person from Norway, one person from the US, one person from autralia ect etc. I read it as galaxies being assigned to a country. Ok you can ignore my points then

Re: Planetarion World Cup
wakey has a good point. If you're getting credits for winning and so on, all those Americans and Australians playing would be at a disadvantage unless it ran for 48 hours non-stop.
Also, with the UK making up 1/3 of the total playerbase (approximately, as far as I know), and at a guess the majority of those coming from England, I don't see how it is possible to fairly break up the player groups.

Re: Planetarion World Cup
if on sign up you could pick a team to support that would help more. and a mini flag icon appears next to name to show whos rooting for who..
this way Pa can run as normal and see how many of each team makes the top 100.. or something..
the most people in top 100 with same flag wins the Planetarion World Cup and your still have yourr 1st,2nd,3rd place winners.. and you also gain on the world cup thingi.. and you try your best to make the top 100 for the team you support.. no creds given for most ppl on same team ofcouse.. but its just for fun.. isnt it.. plus if you add teh world cup teams into sign up. you can only support a team thats in the sup if that teams elimited then your support at end dosnt count.. as that team never made it..

btw, no. You don't have each galaxy all 1 alliance. It'd be like basically tagging each galaxy and allowing some galaxies to ally under one command structure. Same sort of idea as private galaxies competing

Basically you're saying a normal speedround with the old school tags in addition to the alliances.

Re: Planetarion World Cup
yes and no.. have your supported team flag would be greate. but teh alliance tag isnt much.. haveing a "A" gets confuseing at times.. as when i first joined my alliance and became a full member of it i never had it appeare.. it only appeared the other day.. but for alliances you could do wot u did with GC and stuff make them BOLD and a serten colour.. good colour tho.. nothing to light or dark..
so the A could be replaced with bold text of a serten colour. and replaced with a flag icon for team supporting speed game..

Re: Planetarion World Cup
tbh i dont get how it works though? people get into buddy packs by country, and then galaxies are made with 4 buddy packs of different countries. Then, they play against each other. So, who gets the credits? What's the point of the country buddy pack things? And how is it a world cup? do we have lots of rounds and then a final?

Re: Planetarion World Cup
i dunno but wot i think should happen is when u sign up you choose a team to support.. then u sign up.. play as normal fight as hard as u can to get into top 100. if you reach it and your supported team is in the final and win. you get a point..
if the people in top 100 supported the winning team they won. no rewards given for world cup.. you just play as normal ..but with a twist.. u help support teh world cup. mabye the highest ranking person of the winning world cup team gets a credit.. to make it fair.. this will cause everyone to compete to be number 1.. thus resulting in a better battle game.. see is dosnt matter if the player is ranked 99
if he/she picked the winning team and he/she is the only one in the top 100 they win.. its as simple as that..
the aim of it is to get into the top 100 as normal. but u support a team on sign up.. nothing extra.. just you support a team as a laught.. if your the highest support in top 100 then u win. if no one is in top 100 no one wins..
its basicly just a normal speed round.. but there is a extra reward for the supporting team winner..
only the world cup team that wins counts.. so it can be anybody.. if your supported team gets eliminated then you jsut battle for first place.. realy.. thats how i think it should work as.. just a extra featuer for a speed round on the world cup .. but the only problem here is it will have to be running for the whole cup.. to make it work..i dunno how long the cup actuly is.. so the ticks might have to be 1 hour just to last that long. and mabye this can be a longer round. to make way for the next version after it.. etc.. will give pa staff more time on the next round also..

Re: Planetarion World Cup
having not bothered to read all of this thread.
how do the teams get chosen?
no offence to people, but there's a lot of retards in this game, and i'd rather not get stuck with them just because i want to play (and win, as lets be fair here, i am the best player ever :/) for my country etc.

If your going to ask questions you should read the whole thread as its not productive to have people asking the same question over and over again Although Ferretus please try and keep your comments a little less flamey please
Oh and higginz in future before making snide comments at people that add nothing to the discussion I suggest you take a moment to think first. This isnt the place to make such comments, if you want to do that head over to GD where it would be more on topic. Consider this a warning, next time you feel the need to needless flame anyone on this forum you will find yourself banned.
