Please excuse this post if its a bit inaccurate, however I haven't played since the earlier rounds!
The problem(s)
- Free accounts are being placed into the universe which are never played, these end up being exiled.
- The galaxies which end up exiling them not only have the hassle of having to exile, but their galaxy has a wasted space which an active player could've used.
What people want
- Developers want new active players to join the real universe so they can interact with the entire community.
- Veteran players need new active players who are willing to put in effort, otherwise the game ends up stagnant.
- New players want to feel more welcomed, instead of being exiled.
Current similar discussions
Advanced quests have been suggested for use on new players. However this doesn't solve the problem that if a new inactive player is placed in the universe then the galaxy suffers from it.
Possible solution
Any free players should be placed in temporary training galaxies, seperate from the main universe. I believe this used to happen a few rounds ago, however it was effectively an entirely seperate universe where you got moved to the paid universe only once you upgraded your account.
Whilst in a training galaxy, these players should have to grow to a certain size and achieve other objectives before being moved into the main universe. Some examples:
- Set your engineers priority for maximum research (ensures they understand the importance of engineer priority)
- Initiate 80 asteroids (ensures that they've done research and know how to expand).
- Construct a research laboratory (gets them constructing essential factories/centres)
- Build a fleet suitable to attack 20 syrens and capture a minimum of 10 asteroids (fleet building, fleet construction)
- Find a suitable target in galaxy 200:1 and attack for 1 hour (shows them the combat side of the game)
These could be done with
player quests, as some replies to the thread have suggested. This suggestion is slightly different as it keeps new players in a training galaxy instead of giving them quests in the main universe.
Galaxy 200:1 could be filled with system accounts, not something which can attack, but planets which are designed to help the attack quest.
The objectives above could be unique for each player for variety, or they could be more generalised, such as instruct your engineers to set their priorities. However the list of objectives should help a new player go through the basics of the game, guiding them on how to start and maintain a planet effectively.
How this solves the problem!
- Inactive planets will never go into the main universe, only active ones.
- New players can only move to the main universe once they understand the game.
- Galaxies will get a better player, instead of having to exile inactives.
- New players will benefit from guidance on what to do.
Any thoughts/opinions?
