Ironicly, Nominet are more stringent than the TLD domain (.com, .net, .org...) registrars.
Last time I had dealings with them, they would send a letter with a reapplication form in it to the registered contact address for the domain when that domain was near to expirey. If you wished to keep the domain, you had to return the form.

Obviously if you put bollocks in the contact info that would = no form which would = no domain...

Dunno if thats still how they work.
