OK, if I want movie information, I go to the IMDB.

What's the music equivalent? I don't mean the CDDB, I'm talking about web info / user data.

More than pure factoids, what I particularly want is to search for a band/artist, and then get their songs ranked by popularity. You know how if you were asking someone, you'd say "Hey, recommend the five best songs of XYZ". Obviously it's all subjective, but in my experience if a lot of people tend to agree that Sgt Pepper's is one of the better Beatles albums, I'll agree.

What do others use? Is there anywhere which fits what I want? Google isn't much use, I get tonnes of identikit lyrics sites. The BBC have http://www.bbc.co.uk/music/profiles/, but it's not got a song ranking, plus it's missing tonnes of info.

I used to use www.ubl.com but then it went a bit shite.
Might be better now tho - haven't tried it in a while.

this is a uk top 40 archive. Not exactly what your looking for but interesting none the less. I use it to be dissapointed with people throughout the generations. Although a lot of the "best known classics" werent released, those that were are sorely undervalued. Hotel California only reaching number 8, for example. Freebird reached the dizzy heights of 21. Back in the 60's, California dreamin' only reached 22 (and reached #9 in 1997?)
