Overall R9800XT is better, but the R9800Pro is priced ALOT better than its XT cousin.
T-bred and barton are just different AMD Athlon XP CPU cores, the barton is at 166-200MHz FSB with on-die 512Kb L2 cache, the T-bred is 133-166MHz FSB with 256Kb on-die L2 cache. They will both use the same Socket A/462.
Go with a barton, a Mobile 2500+ if your mobo will support it. (If it supports AMD XP Barton 2500+ then it should) that's price wise however.
If your wallet is fat, the best baring the AMD64 CPUs is a P4C 3.2Ghz (200MHz FSB quad pumped), though just because your m8 has problems its no reason why you would have problems aswell.
