Amsterdam. Or maybe Barcelona.
Depends on how cheap you want to live. I mean, you can always get free rooms in a city, it just depends on what type of person you are and how low you're willing to sink. Food is easy to get cheap/free, also depends on your tastes. And so on.

Re: Looking For....
What we want is somewhere where the 'drunken dicks wearing Union Jack shorts' don't go. Somewhere relaxing with pretty good (ie cheap) shopping (and 220v is handy as well)
Barcelona is an interesting idea but Ibiza etc don't appeal as much. What are Estonia and Lithuania like ?
and as far as I know, Canada isnt in Europe

Re: Looking For....
croatia if you want to be near the sea (split of dubrovnik) accommodation is generally cheap (if you go for 'private' accommodation rather than a hotel) and beer and food is very cheap too. very relaxing, very hot, excellent cruises up and down the coast for a tenner.
budapest for a nice bit of history, some cool bars, cheap beer and food. cheap accommodation.
prague same as budapest but you are more likely to run into drunken english dickheads on a stag do.
you can fly to prague from about £30 one way with easyjest from east midlands airport, i heard a rumour that one of the buget airlines was starting a service to split this summer, that could be good.

i heard flights become cheaper the more people use them regularly to destinations and he asked for a cheap break?
If he wanted a sarcastic backhander on British culture and where to go to be original you'd be one PM up right now am i right?

Quite obviously, yes.
And if you're into that sort of cultural nonsense, there's cathedrals and stuff to look at. I'm told.

Most definately.
I went there over the summer and it was fantastic. There are also some great places of interest within train reach, Pilsen (spelling?) etc.
The food was delicious and very cheap.
The beer was quality and cost only pence.
The accomodation on offer was anything from a simple bed for £7/night, then £15/night for someone not to shabby (say a 3 star hotel) and then upwards...
And with hotdogs in the station for 10p you can't go wrong... (Unless you actually eat them).
All of this in a fun, beautiful and interesting city.

Re: Looking For....
If you want it cheap, hitchhike somewhere. We hitched to Amsterdam, cost us about £20 in total.

Re: Looking For....
It Budapest I met Mario.
He was also know as Mr ****.
He had lots of tits and pussy, with pictures to prove it. Apparently as I was not interested in his great offerings, it meant that I was either Scotish (explaining English tourists wanted fun and the Scots are dull) or I have a small penis. He then offered to rectify the second problem which he assumed I had by trying to give me his free "viagra".
Gee he was a great guy. After giving him some drunken abuse (probably not the best idea on a dark street in Budapest but nevermind) I staggered off to McDonalds, which is reassuringly cheap over there.

you and those damn hotdogs! they're AWFUL
i would still recommend budapest over prague because i found prague to be slightly more touristy and you are more likely to run into drunked english dickheads. however im not sure a budget airline flies direct to budapest so you may be better off with prague
(although croatia is still a better choice if you want a more relaxing holiday or if you want to be near the coast - dubrovnik is one of the acest cities in the world )

Re: Looking For....
Ljubjana in Slovenia is pretty ace as well. I really enjoyed my stay there, and as far as drunken english yobs are concerned I didn't meet any at all.
I flew into Trieste (North Italy) with Ryan Air very cheap and then got a train accross.
I stayed in a place called the BIT center. £9/night. Had brand new rooms (exceptional standard), "pod" ensuites (very much the same as I have at uni, sky tv in the rooms, and lots of sporting facilities... indoor squash, badminton....

Re: Looking For....
Croatian beaches are meant to be the best in Europe at the moment - A cruise around the islands off the coast would be amazing - it's mainly unspoilt!
Or Prague is nice and cheap.
The 'new' European countries such as Slovakia, Slovenia etc are getting much nicer.
If you get an interrailing ticket you could see all these places... I may have to this summer.

Re: Looking For....
Not quite unlimited...
You have to pay surcharges on most of the trains you will be catching, ie. ones between major cities as they tend to be inter cities...
The surcharges are not much £1-4ish...
But the problem is that through Eastern Europe when I was there last summer most of the ticket offices wouldn't accept the fact I needed a surcharge, even when I show them where it says I need one on the ticket and when I brought conductors from the platform.
This then results in "fines" from conductors, or them just overcharging.
At one point I was asked for £1000, which was quite funny... I got thrown off that train.
However, they are a great idea, I bought a 12 day one zone ticket. Used it for travel between Ljubjana and Prague, stopping off at Zagreb, Bratislava, Budapest and Krakow. All amazing places, I will definately be going back, perhaps not to Zagreb though.

Good luck finding 220v

Until recently voltage in the UK was 240 VAC nominal, +- 6%. Voltage in most of the rest of Europe was 220 VAC. A few years ago voltages throughout Europe were harmonized to 230 VAC.

prague or riga are both places me and my friends have been looking at, they are both meant to be really good at the moment, but riga has the edge in that its still unsullied by english ****ing stag parties

To get to portugal from the UK is a hell of a lot more expensive than getting to Belgium...
