Kobe did WHAT?
Well, well. Apparently our politically correct society has now seen fit to avoid yet another unpleasant term. The term is 'rape'.
But of course, we dare not offend Mister Bryant, or by extension, our African American brethren by saying he has been charged with rape.
Oh no. It's bad enough that we should even consider charging the man with a crime. After all, he is not merely a celebrity. He is an African American celebrity.
So, well, I suppose the least we could do is clean up the story. We can say he's been charged with sexual assault, which, in this day and age, is apparently something less than rape. How clever of us. And how nice.

He will be put in gaol for 20 years, and have his trial after this time (american style).

The distinction is actually penetration. At least in Illinois rape is when someone penetrates orificially* against their will. Whereas sexual assault is an extremely loose term falling somewhere between sexual harrassment and rape. I have no idea what Kobe Bryant did or what the motivations would be behind classifying his crime as sexual assault, but if he stuck it up in her it's rape.
*best word ever.

basically what happened is the 19 girl said she was raped, and filed charges while Kobe admits to having slept with her, but says it wasn't against her will
Here is an article on it if your actually interested
In the end, Bryant's good lawyers will get him off, as with all of the rich and famous

The bloke's a naive idiot. He's an NBA superstar, she's a receptionist.
If he's guilty, then my dearest apologies to the poor woman, but if I had a fifty million dollars in the bank, saw some 19-year old girl on a low income and DIDN'T think this sort of thing might happen, I'd lock myself indoors and only go outside accompanied by 14 lawyers.
It's America, this is WHAT THEY DO.

An NBA Basketball 'superstar.' Probably close to what Tiger Woods is in Golf or David Beckham in football in terms of popularity, squeaky clean image, rah rah etc etc

because, of course, he must be guilty. I wouldn't be shocked to find that either he pissed her off somehow or she hoped to be paid off.
Not to say he didn't do it either, but jumping on the "rich people always get off" bandwagon is a bit absurd when there hasn't even been a trial yet.

Maybe he is, but I really don't think there's any point being an NBA superstar unless you are going to have sex with "lower class" girls. Surely?
Haven't you heard? Channel One News have a poll on the subject!
Guilty : 14151 votes (70.5%)
Innocent: 5914 votes (29.5%)
Who needs a trial?

Online or phone polls mean JACK ****
If they counted, OJ would have been executed, Enron execs would have suffered death by firing squad, and anyone earning less than $30,000 a year would have been hailed a national hero and elected to congress.

Of course, this is just a television poll, whichis not legally-binding, unless Proposition 304 passes, and we all pray it will.

Neither do I, apart from the "People earning less than $30,000 will be hailed as national heroes and elected to Congress"
Those are the same people you see walking around London in hawaiian shirts with big Nikon cameras asking "Which Way To the Changing Of the Ravens at Buckingham Tower".

it is a surprising coinkidink that kobe managed to find the one woman in western america that didn't want to **** him, but oh well.
larger picture is that he'll end up giving her a few million dollars, more or less depending on evidence, and everyone will go home happy (like kobe really needs the money; he'll probably make it in one day filming a spirte commerical).
and the rich and famous do always get off.

Give a negro money, a beautiful wife, everything. He still throws it away..... Getting into the NBA straight out of high school is the worst thing that can happen to a young black man in this country.

you really have to define what is best in life before you can say what the worst thing that can happen is:/
standard def is "lots of money and fame and women" by which standard that's pretty much the best thing that can happen to a young black man right out of college.
and sometimes i get the impression that people think these kids should be going to college. they shouldn't. this is a generalization i know, but college isn't for stupid people. and these basketball stars are simply anti-smart. if i'm remembering correct, kevin garnett got a six on his ACT*. why the hell would hell would he go to college?
* I got a 30 and cried like a little girl. we all have off days i guess. it's out of 36, and I'm guessing there's a minimum of a score of 4.
