Anyone Remember League [L] and the glory that was 8th?

How is paying working out for the game?

8th rings a bell, werent they mostly Fury at one point?

8th were the c8 alliance
they mostly merged into Fury during the course of round 2 during the tuba wars if i recal correctly..
members such as ilh...and thats the only one i remember

Paying for it killed it, the game was in decline even when you left, the big 3 alliances (Fury, Xanadu, VtS) disbanded in R7/8 which pretty much killed Planetarion as a "professional" game after that they decided to rewrite the entire game which led to just about everyone leaving. You could have asked me all this on MSN

8th (Cluster 8 R1) had lots of TFC people in it they carried on into Round 2 but later disbanded and merged into Fury. League was a Round 3 alliance which John and Baxter led urrm it died when you guys left didn't it ?

i was c7 in r1.

i vaguely remember an incident fairly early on in r1 where the Obi got c7a involved in some c8 politics which ended up in us killing our own ships at some planet in c8.... those of us involved were fairly peeved and iirc it contributed directly to the rise of c7r which became fury and merged with some of 8th for r2

I remember 8th....

R1 got into c8a, the cluster alliance - when round 2 came around we rebagged ourselves as 'The 8th' or jusr '8th' then we got pally with Fury and disappeared into them.

No it didnt, the alliances killed the game, paying just made it happen quicker

Yea it was all Fury and Legion's fault we ruined the game for everyone

Thinking back I wish I’d joined a shoddy alliance full of players who were incapable of being online past 0000, then spent all my days chatting on IRC banged on about what a great community we had and how the nasty baby eaters would have killed the game anyway so Spanner was right to make it pay to play. Or not.

I didnt blame Fury and Legion, I blamed alliances in general. When it got ultra professional and alliances started to block it became a game with limited appeal, a game with limited appeal is always going to struggle and p2p just made things happen quicker as it helped make many a causal players mind up about playing when before they were unsure.

pay to play did kill the game. know why? cos it meant less planets, which meant less skilled alliances no longer even had significant strength in numbers, formerly their only advantage.

Well I would have to agree with both, if PA had been a single play game, without alliances p2p would not have affected it as much, simply because the "small" players would rarely pay for a round were they knew they would only end up as farms.

But pa without alliances would not be pa...

p2p killed the casual players, alliances have always been killing players...

Yes, if I hadn't have set up Wrath then neither me or you would have been command, thus resulting in a much weaker Fury for r5. It's entirely plausible thatFury may not have existed in fact and then r6 would have been way different without Fury.

Yeah it was called MoC.

And I don't agree alliances killed the game, they made it a bit more straighforward and awkard to play.

For me making something that was free pay2play killed it, I was virtually not playing much by round 6 neway. but being in a gal with Dino, mis , Kylie, Jo etc was a great laff. Stil i didn't return the next round, 'cause I thought with all the crap going on, if that continued I don't want to be paying for smething that I'm not really using as much as I did in the First 4 rounds.

Maybe i just got too cynical and jaded, but it happened.
