Looking for a contraption

So Im working at a call centre with an app which can alert individuals about things using vbscript (Like in the shape of a message box, sound alert, net send). So its got a vbscript engine and I can use any registered com objects or whatever.

Now, heres the thing, it would be really nice if I could take away the message box on screen and replace it with a lovely little "Red Alert Bulb" kind of thing. IE, I want to have a physical device that lights up when a certain state is reached - preferably triggered by use of scripting (here being vbscript).

Does anyone know if such a device exists that can be purchased cheaply. Preferably it needs to connect to a USB 1 socket (As the desktops in the office are Legacy free and so no com ports / printer ports or any external interface other than usb).

I've done a bit of googling on "USB Visual Alert" and "USB Warning Device" but cant find anything useful.

The important things here are that it needs to be triggered by means of vbscript - that said I can execute anything thru the shell object so it could just launch a small app.

.... or am I going to have to get a degree in microelectronics and build my own?
