time investment to win?

how long should you have to put in to planetarion in order to:
1) win?
2) make top 100?
3) make top 25%?
4) make top 50%?

of that time, how much should be during 'unsociable' hours?

this is assuming that you're god's gift to strategy, your political savy is unrivaled, basically you're the best thing since sliced bread.

top ten you have to be online as much as conceivable, be sms able and be flexible enough to jump on irc at short notice.

top 50 you have to have a high degree of the above, but lesser.

T100 you have to be active at key times and have a good buddy pack.

anything less than this i wouldn't really know or understand.

Apart from t10 i would sa the max you need to be online for is around 6 hours a day. t10 as already stated is nearly 24/7

i was more interested in minimums, and what they *should* be, not what they currently are. appologies, should have been clearer on that

Re: time investment to win?

t10, no decent real life
t100 6/7 hours a day (which has most of those in night euro times

t25% (apart from a decent gal and a decent alliance) willingness to attack every night (with 2 fleets)
t50% (same) willingness to attack every second night (with 1 fleet) something like that :p

I hardly never wake up at night and I'm almost at the top100 (gmt +2 helps me a bit though:))

Depends on a lot of factors. If you want top10 in a winning alliance in a strong gal, launch 2 attacks per day, SMSable for ingal def and an alliance able to defend you during the early/mid game (which often entails being able to launch def at least 2 times a day).

If you want top50 in a losing alliance, in a bad gal, be ready to sweat blood.

Re: time investment to win?

top 100 = simply be able to avoid the big incs = fencesit, nap your planet with strong allies(enemies?) or play solo so nobody cares about your planet

top 50..... give me some more days, heh

If you have a good galaxy and a good alliance then doing well doesn't take too much effort from your part. The main thing is to attack every day, preferably with two fleets, so that you get the necessary XP to stay ahead.

This is really the heart of it, as long as your in a decent gal, a top 5 or 6 ally and attack twice a day top 100 should be fairly easy. You don't even have to be on all that often, as it's not so important to hang onto roids as it is to gain new ones. I'm personally convinced top 10 has more to do with luck than anything else. The biggest proof of this is that rarely do people end in the top ten consistently. There are so many factors that go into making a winning planet that even the best and most active and dedicated players can fail to reach the top ten.

2) Top100 - Launch a fleet or two per day. Not much activity required these days to end top100.

Re: time investment to win?

ehm the activity you need for ANY rank is basically ability to launch 2 attacks, jgp said attacks and basically be able to get online at any time really. but godknows you dont need to stay online 24/7 or such shit. your end rank however depends a lot more on other factors.

How much effort winning or top10 ranks should take will be different depending on who you ask. Although there is one thing I think most people would agree on which is:

BOTH TAKE TOO MUCH TIME, an extremely unhealthy amount of time for the individuals involved.

Ask cocteau he is online for 5 mins a day and gets top 10 no problem with any race.

true, Reunion has 2 ~top80 planets, and we sleep at nights and pre-launch our fleets :p
xp ftw! :D

But about the topic, if it took less time to do reasonably well,we might have more players. I think thats the biggest and most common reason to leave the game, when you dont have enough time for both PA and rl/school/job etc.

yea it works quite well with sleep nowadays. you just need to choose your targets wisely.
