People who quit the forums
Can we make it a rule that people who post leaving messages get their account deleted.
I'm just thinking about Karm and Jakiri here (the deletion of both of whose accounts i think would improve the boards).
It would also stop people from posting shitty leaving messages unless they actually did leave.
Your opinion = ?

I think meaple fits into that category. Well, he said he was quitting everything and it turns out he only quit the boards and was back on IRC within a week. He should be IP banned from the world.

Yes if they think they might be back at some point and they ABSOLUTELY POSITIVELY MUST TELL PEOPLE THAT THEY WONT BE AROUND MOST OF THE TIME then they should make a "Hi i wont be around very much in future because i'm enjoying the real world" or the equivalent kind of thread NOT a leaving thread.

Come on man, this is a ridiculous position to try and defend. "I posted a quit thread because I was leaving the forums for a couple of days". You decided to leave, you changed your mind and came back.

Jesus is this really worth arguing about (the whether Mark actually said he was leaving totally bit).
Also Jonny has left at least 3 times to my recollection, but I think he only ever posted one quit thread, and then he was gone for about 4 or 5 months, the other times he just told a few people on irc.

Mark doesn't discuss things.
He argues and argues and argues and argues and argues and argues and argues and argues and argues and agrues and argues his point and then when he is proven to be wrong he continues arguing his point over and over again hoping, i suspect, that persistence will "win" him the argument.
That would be bad enough but he uses language instead of any decent salient point to try and win his case (ie he focuses on words the other person has used instead of their argument and argues against those words or/while giving a ****ing longwinded account of a basic point).
Both things which annoy the **** out of me.
Both reasons why the forums would be better off without him.

MrL did seem to have a character flaw that was incompatible with skilled moderating.
There isn't really a need to delete usernames when they leave. It would deny genuine leavers the pleasure of posting again a year later saying "are you ****wits still here?" or similar.
People make leaving threads for attention. If they then stay, they just have less credibility. A second leaving thread by a person who has never left should be filled with less than kind regards and the wishing of much suffering for the future.

I think their account would be deleted before then anyway (3 months without posting = account deleted yes/no?).
If you delete the username and the person changes their mind then they are "marked".
The new name is a reminder to everyone about how shit they are (ie making a leaving thread and staying).
A person who only posted a couple of times ages later just to catch up wouldn't really mind being marked whereas a person who went back on their quit thread intentions and stayed would possibly get pissed off at being so marked (making quit threads a more serious thing and stopping attention whores from making them when they have no real intention of leaving)
As such deletion the deletion of the user name of a person who posts a quit thread is good.
