"Campaigners Mediawatch UK have railed against the show going out on BBC Two on Saturday because of the high level of swearing"
now do you still think we should give free health care to the elderly?

The BBC can ****-off and so can Mediawatch. In fact they can sodomise each other freely for all I care.

Re: So, erm , "Must Watch TV" , BBC2 , Saturday?
Every magazine
I happened to read
In WHSmiths
Seemed to scream at me
"It's big and bold and it's new!"
"And it's coming soon"
"To a screen near you!"
And in order to inflame us
They showed a million trailers
Packed with special effects
I guess I ought to have guessed
But I'd hoped it would be
A romantic comedy
Until a round-table discussion
Late night
On BBC2
Changed my point of view
BBC2
And when it finally arrived
It nearly lived up to the hype
And what we got
Was a mis-directed epic
Packed with action
Explosions and disasters
Shame about the actors
They were cast against type
We stayed up all night
You should have seen the queue
It was on BBC2
A static picture of perfection
Me and you
On BBC2.
And though I got over-excited at the time
And bought the merchandise
It didn't take me very long
To realise
That though it's very flash and fancy
It'll never be a classic
Now my tie-in t-shirt lies unwashed
Unwanted
At the bottom of the basket
And I don't want to see scenes previously unseen
Widescreen
On the DVD
And in a year or two
On a Sunday afternoon
You'll see it there
On BBC2
It warrants two or three lines
In the Radio Times
Not even a photograph of you
On BBC2

Moral outrage is such a nice term.
It is handy for absolving us of the sins of our actions it seems

They should ban this. I'm all for free speech but when it starts destroying moral values we have to draw the line.

They should have gotten a few thousand muslims or hindus to complain--then the BBC would have pulled it immediately.

Hindus and Muslims wouldn't have complained. They'd have gathered in a mob 10,000 strong outside broadcasting house, would have started burning copies of the BBC charter, and would have threatened to storm the place if their demands were not met.

From here
Quote:
It is believed Roly Keating, the controller of BBC2, and Jana Bennett, the director of television, are among those who have been given private security guard protection.
Private telephone numbers of those concerned were posted on a campaign group's website, which was later taken down following legal action by the Beeb.

Don't you just hate people?

The opera, which plays to packed houses in the West End, contains a total of 3,168 "f"-words and 297 "c"-words.
The total number of obscenities is calculated by multiplying the number of swearwords by the number of people singing them.
|
This takes the piss a bit.
Quote:
But BBC director general Mark Thompson said that as a practising Christian he found nothing in the show that he believed to be blasphemous.
"An hour-long programme is going out in front of it, putting it into context, and making it very, very clear to the public that it does include a great deal of strong language," he said.
|
An hour long program? Congratulations Beeb, you've just undone all of the good work of showing it by saying and doing that.

The hour long program involved David Soale (sp) talking to the camera. A bit of the making of. And half an hour of Ruby Wax annoying everyone at the real Jerry Springer show.
Then a 5 second "This will contain lots of swearing" warning.

Re: So, erm , "Must Watch TV" , BBC2 , Saturday?
I had a lecture last year with the guy who coined that term. He was OK.
As for Jerry Spring : The Opera, I didn't see it but it was co-wrote by Stewart Lee who is very funny generally.
