If the DNA tests come back positive they'll have been caught red handed or not. Couldn't resist the play of words. Probably a better play out there, but I'm too lazy to give it much thought. :0

Since when have you started hanging out with radical dudes?
And they'll probably get deported to Australia.

Re: There was this demonstration...
Not to sound ignorant but what is going n in Usbekistan at the moment? All I've seen on the news so far is that protesters were killed. I've not seen any mention of why they were killed or what they were protesting about.

Re: There was this demonstration...
To be perfectly honest I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner.
There is also a sniff of hypocrisy around the Uzbek spokesman calling this "barbaric" after what's been going on in his country.
As for hospital treatment - heh!
Oh no, one of your more highly strung beaurocrats hyperventilated for a few minutes. I imagine the hundreds of civilians your troops mowed down would have gladly switched places.
You may get the impression I have little sympathy for the Uzbek government right now. If so, you have sucessfully understood this post. Well done.

Like most people in these sorts of places, I gather that they're generally protesting against a barbarically oppressive government and abysmal living standards. The Uzbek government calls them 'Islamic Militants' in order to attempt to justify shooting and torturing them to the west. or at least, it has up to now. It looks like it's kind of overplayed it's hand here.

Re: There was this demonstration...
I don’t really understand how DNA is going to prove that they threw the red paint; unless the police have managed to recover the paint can, in which case your stupid friends deserve what ever trumped up punishment they get for committing a crime and not disposing of their evidence properly.
For the purpose of proving a link between the paint and a protestor I would personally think it’s more economic to seize their clothing and examine it for trace amounts of the red paint, or even finger print the paint can
DNA is a pretty costly thing to test so I wouldn’t think it’s likely to be used for something like criminal damage, though because of the publicity of this case the police probably want some sort of result. Perhaps Yahwe could shed any light on whether or not an attack on "diplomatic soil" might aggravate the offence of criminal damage or count as anything more?
It could just be the police are using the SCARY DNA card, which is generally perceived by the "stupid" that a "positive DNA result" = guilt

Re: There was this demonstration...
Islam is another major world view. I'm sure they feel the same about us, sometimes, especially with Bush tossing coins over who he's going to invade in the middle east .
The Islamic POV gets bad reputation here, because we (apparently) are mainly Christian, and when Christian and Islamic beliefs clash, we hear the Christian side of view, and feel we're right, while they often hear / think of the other side, and get upset when we're like "oh you're all wrong, clearly we're in the right", etc. Mainly Islamic groups are people who have lived the last couple of thousand years with their spiritual point of view being different to ours. To be honest, for many years they held some of the more enlightened points of history, with lots of peace and studying while we were killing each other off with our swords.

It's not if the Uzbek Embassy pays them to get results.

The police told them that they might charge them with criminal damage if there's enough evidence.

It worked in a lot of cases in the past no?

One of them since Year 8 and the rest like 1st year of uni..... so that's nearly 2 years ago. They all (apart from the guy I knew since Year 8) live in East London (how typical)
