Re: [Discuss] An ingame way of figuring out what alliance an attacker is in
You know me Kal I'm all for opennes in the game. I'm happy and proud to display my tag, and have no problem in them coming back! But I am more than happy to take the compromise of a covert op mission, its a great idea. Simple last covert op option of revealing a players alliance history (with tick times of joining/leaving). A scan would not work, scanner planets do enough damage to the game already!

Re: [Discuss] An ingame way of figuring out what alliance an attacker is in
Actually. In every other online game I have ever played. The alliances/Corps/Clans are always tagged. SO it makes sense for everyone's planet to just be tagged anyway as soon as they join a tag. Plus, if we look at this from the angle we have been taking on everything else (making noobs happier) it would help the noobs know what was going on. BUT, a bad point is that people in no ally, will be twatted. Over, and over, and over, by cowards.

And larger planets in smaller alliances, since they have much smaller chance of getting def and you have much less fear of retall.

Re: [Discuss] An ingame way of figuring out what alliance an attacker is in
the solid alliances will have access to such a tech weeks before your average noob, as they have dedicated people going straight up the covopp tree. they will have access to it within a few ticks of the lowest possible time.
your average noob, however, does a research in one area, then one in another... forgets to add a new one... and arives at the end of the cov op tree about 2 weeks before the round ends.
on top of that, setting aside the intangible benifit of feeling like you know more, who benifits more from knowing what the other tag is, when they wouldnt other wise? a solid player in a top alliance typically doesnt have access to his or her alliances intel list, at least not early. and a lot of top players still get their roids from solo raiding. so, if this guy scans a good target, and discovers hes in some crap alliance, or even none at all, he benifits greatly. (no def! yay!) on the other hand, the noob, when he gets raped by this guy, what good does it do him to know what alliance hes in? if hes being attacked by this guy, he probably wont be able to effectively counter attack him, and even if he could, the top players chances of getting def are very high. in the end he has a higher chance of getting attacked, and no added ability to either defend himself or counter attack. all it will result in is more of those god damn crap threads on AD about how much such and such an alliance sucks because they roided the peon author of the thread.
not to mention the fact that any mid range alliance member who has SOME grasp of the balance of power scaning a target is much less likely to attack if the said planet is a member LCH/1up/ND than if its a member of some 2 bit, 3 member alliance with a name written in leet speak. again, its the good alliance member who benifits.
really, i cant see any tangible benifits for the low skill/effort players in this idea, all it will do is widen the gap further.

ok, so it just tells the planet under attack whether his attacker worth counterattacking, whether he is in a good alliance or a crap one... attackers in weaker alliances suddenly get retalled all the time, attackers in strong alliances get left alone. still the good players who benifit, it becomes much harder for weak/independent players to successfully attack, which takes a lot of fun out of things.
