PA Round 1
OK, now usually I'd be one of the first to turn round and say that this should be on the PA Forums as opposed to GD, however, I'm aiming this at the GD browsers.
Who from GD who has quit actively playing PA (so thats like 90% of you) would sign up for a game of PA taken from Round 1.
The scenario would be:
- Round one rules
- Round one ships
- Round one code (including all the little bugs etc)
- Round one graphics
- Round one everything else
Whats the chances of getting something like this set up? Anyone still got the PA Round 1 code?

Re: PA Round 1
What's the chance of you being banned for this obvious 'hey, I'm making a clone!' activity.
And given that they didn't have the R1 code after R2, I doubt it.

Re: PA Round 1
Pretty much none, as I can't code web stuff/anything, I was more thinking it could have been done by Jolt in a kinda retro/'free' sense.

Re: PA Round 1
R3 was good due to the fact it had a meritable amount of players playing it to make it work.
None of the planetarion code would be particularly good for games of the sizes that the latter planetarion rounds suffered.

He's right you know. The games were good because they were active, and new.

Re: PA Round 1
r1 sucked, crap stats (lol let's build 5000 battleships or whatever they were called) and ticks were like 4 days long
round 3 would probably be best but it was only so good cos of the active userbase

Re: PA Round 1
I would not play again even if we were in 2000, r3. playing this sort of game is pretty pointless. Like UO and such.

I've played tons of pa clones later, and the fact that an attack takes 8 hours, so that some sob that is 5 times your size comes and **** you up good, an account that took like 30 days to set up, is pretty much enough to say it sucks.
Also the politics envolved, aliances and shit.
I rather play war3. everything sorted out in 20mins average. If you are ****ed up good in that game, dont worry, you get a fresh start in 20 mins.

Considering I missed the original Round 1, I'd be willing to play a game yes

Re: PA Round 1
<3 Muslim.
p.s. R2 was the best for me. R3 was good (I like simplicity) but I didn't like that roiding was the only way to grow. I like salvage from R4, but the high armour stuff was annoying.

I would if we get 10,000 players and 30,000 accounts.

Re: PA Round 1
round 3 was more or less round 2 just slightly tweaked.
I still prefer round 1 though cause it had holo roids and planetary shields

Re: PA Round 1
I started Round 1 about halfway through and I remember there being some serious bugs at the time (Me suddenly getting 10000 ships was fun though )
I'd prefer Round 3 although I think some tweaking would be required to stop Theif/Pirate hoarding from occuring.
That said if someone were to set up a round 1 game I'd play because I also liked the HoloRoids etc..

Re: PA Round 1
Round 1's bugs made for TACTICS. Like spending resources you didn't have, or attacking for 9 consecutive ticks.

Round 1 also made for farming as Frag could testify :P

Re: PA Round 1
rounds one two and three all had perfectly good rules, though rounds one and two were horribly unbalanced (war frigates and cruisers were a complete waste in round 1, everything but thieves were a complete waste in two)
making a completely useless ship didn't ruin a round though, people had the option of not producing it. the piggy-backing rules of round 4 made it completely pointless to roid anyone who wasn't stupid, and scrap made it completely useless to try to wipe out anyone at all.
ps: the reason i don't play is that anyone who isn't in a major alliance hasn't been able to compete since round 4.
