Re: Local election results
Why did it say on the news that the Labour came/are coming third, when they are clearly have 60% more councillors and 3 times as many councils?
edit: than the Liberal Democrats.

I'd guess that's based on seats won minus seats lost, rather than remaining seats total.
I almost* feel sorry for the Labour councillors who did a good job at local level, but lost their seats today because the public used local elections to complain about Iraq.
*only "almost" because these results should hasten Blair's departure (edit - and it all works out fair if you consider they probably originally won their local seats on national issues too)

Re: Local election results
This isnt bad.
Lib dems might even be a credible party in a couple of years!
Clives never gonna get into power though. But hes not doing too badly. Gaining seats and so forth. God bless his little cotten socks.

Re: Local election results
They're talking about the proportion of the vote won when they say Labour came third.
And I'm glad Labour got owned.
The only Labour guy I didn't want to see lose today was Ken. And he probably didn't.

Re: Local election results
Labour got effed in the A!!
I was surprised at how fked they were; I was expecting some backlash but not the worst result in a local election of any ruling party in the history of the Universe ever.
I just hope that people used this to have a go at Labour but come election time (the proper election) they'll support them again. I'm not that keen on Labour anymore but they're a lot better than the Tories.

Ken doesn't really count though - he joined the party again because blair wanted him as a figurehead. There was a labour party member on the radio last night saying that she voted for conservatives in locals and greens in EU. Party membership doesn't/shouldn't mean anything to a person actually voting on merit.

Re: Local election results
Im surprised so many people are happy about this. Theres not many things more repulsive than seeing torys celebrating on my television. Surely any result that stops that happening is ****ing brilliant.

Re: Local election results
My local ward is so totally labour that I didn't need to vote to know they'd win here. In the most shit (I was going to say deprived but let's be honest) ward, the BNP almost got in (<50 votes in it).
If the voting was based on Iraq, then the voters forgot the Tories supported the war too.

Re: Local election results
I don't actually care, and my area didn't even vote in the local elections. Ours were last year.
