Mother****ing Royal Mail
There were some whiney sods on the BBC news yesterday lunchtime about 'how shit Royal Mail's gotten since the change to one delivery'. And I thought 'yeah, I've lost the odd piece of mail up here, it is a bit shitty.
Then this morning I received a pack of train tickets that I'd booked on the 22/10/03. That's almost six months ago to the day.
Are they mocking me or what?

Re: Mother****ing Royal Mail
It isn't just Royal Mail. It's the people they employ. Sometimes I get people from a different building up my road saying that my letters ended up in their house.

It's because the government opened the parcel service to competition.

Competition did wonders for the US Postal Service.

As is often the case, the government have half-arsed introduced competition, meaning certain profitable parts of the Royal Mail now have competition, whereas the more loss making elements aren't allowed competition but Royal Mail have to provide a service with price controls in place.
wu_trax style "We'll look at the two opposing arguments, combine the worst elements of both, and give that to everyone under the banner of compromise" wins again. \o/

Oh that's exactly what happened in the US too. At first, the USPS sat around crying in their cups 'boo hoo whatever shall we do.' They realized, to their credit, that if they didn't improve their service then they'd be forever stuck with the unprofitable dregs of the postal market and risked being marginalized out of existence. They decided they had to be competitive with UPS, Fed-Ex, etc. in the lucrative (read profitable) package market. Somewhat to my surprise they appear to be pulling it off.
[Note: the US Postal Service is a semi-private entity. It no longer receives subsidies from the government.]

A mixed economy wouldn't be my first choice, but it's better than some alternatives.

Yeah, people can get a bit crazy when, after 20 years on the job, they're finally expected to do some work.

Re: Mother****ing Royal Mail
We pay £500 a year or something, and they come and pick up our post everyday. This service is very reliable...
As for the delivery of mail... recently a lot of the mail that has gone out never gets recieved. "A first class letter can take upto 16 days" I was told by some shit on the phone "and until after 16 days we will not consider it lost".
