Wireless Network
(Wrong forum I kno - sorry, but you know the deal - more people check here and more frequently!!)

Every minute or so my wireless netowrk drops for a couple of seconds and its v. annoyin!! The quality and signal strength are usually about 99% but then fluctuates for a while.

Can I stop this?
Do you need any more info?

Same with my network, when file sharing with my bro's comp, it wasn't always a constant and sometimes bandwidth dropped down to 5% for a split second.

This is noticeable in LAN gaming too, just once or twice in an hour my ping would top 1000ms, then drop back down to >100ms, highly annoying as it always seems to happen at crucial moments

I suspect it is due to interference, my cards are 802.11B's which operate on the 2.4GHz range, as do alot of household appliances, interference can come from your next door neighbours aswell.

wireless home networks suck. i write this on a wireless network, that for the laptop works but for the other computer that is closer to the router doens't.

I use a wireless network so I can sit on the sofa watching tv and chat on msn or whatever.

Signal drops every now and then for a split second disconnecting me from msn etc. So the same problem, seems to occur more or less frequently depending on where I sit in the room, and a lot less frequently since I screwed the wireless router high up on the wall.

Does it make any difference if I use a wireless hub, not a router?
The hub sits on top of another computer, surely this can't interefere?!

I had a similar problem that I tracked down to the wireless router having DHCP setup and the laptop not using DHCP and having an IP address that was within the DHCP range. (Insert DOH !)
