The new Doctor Who
So rarely do they get remakes right but this one seems spot on. Looking very promising.

As i say remember its aimed at families not young adults, but its still decent, the writing was quite good and billie piper was less shit than i thought she would be.

Re: The new Doctor Who
I watched the leaked torrent a couple of weeks ago and while aspects of it were annoying, (the plastic arm fights, the pathetic boyfriend, the chavvy mother etc), it was good enough to make me watch again (also it's my nerdly duty )

That's the whole point you git
When has Doctor Who ever not been about dodgy aliens and cheap special effects? (though new one has much better production budget than original).
EDIT: That companion bird is well fit

Re: The new Doctor Who
I sat down to watch it expecting something pretty dire but I really enjoyed it.
The plastic aliens have been in episodes before (Autons for those not as sad as me)
Eccleston is a brilliant Dr. Far better than at least 3 I can name.

My family must be strange, we thought it was pretty shit .
If they hadnt given it such a big build up i probably would have thought it was ok, but after all the hype i'm disappointed so far.

Re: The new Doctor Who
No, it was always in the blue police box. The tardis .
On a lighter [and still connected] note, have any of you heard Bill Bailey's 60's Belgian Jazz rendition of the Doctor Who theme tune? It gets my vote.

Re: The new Doctor Who
EDIT:
I did some research and due to some neocon illuminati conspiracy I could only find blue tardises...
I guess they try to change history to drive me crazy, yet I know I´m right.

Technically it could be said it was once greyish (given first series was black & white ho ho).
However, as the story goes from the original, the Tardis changes shape to disguise itself with local surrounds. A police box was quite appropriate for the times that the doctor originally travelled to earth, somehow the mechanism that changes the disguise got stuck and for a guy as resourceful as he is (you know time-lord and all) he never fixed the thing in all that time.
Another strange occurance is between series 1 & 2 the Daleks forgot all about the fact that they required static electricity from metal flooring to run and decided to hell with continuity we're gonna travel wherever we like.

I thought it was quite good. Although the plastic storyline could have been expanded more. I also found the wimpy bf very annoying. But i'll be tuning in next week.

I thought that big blobby cake-mix alien was bringing plastic to life... so why did some of the shop dummy's hands open up to reveal a gun inside? Did I miss something?

Re: The new Doctor Who
It was okay. Not exactly compulsive viewing, but then again, I am not representative of these things. He was actually better in the role than I expected - most of the previews where quite mongchopy. Some truely awful writing at some stages, tho.

No they didn't. In the Dalek Invasion of Earth they use those transmitty dishy jobbies.
"The Daleks" has horrible continuity in all sorts of ways, though. Mostly contradicted by Genesis.

You and the new doctor who seemed pretty similar for some reason.

Re: The new Doctor Who
Just read that also, shame as I though he showed real potential as The Doctor. Probally gonna damage the shows success by losing him because while its a show that allows for the star to change if its going to find a place in modern day tv it needed a single doctor for a while not a change almost before its going to have found its feet

Re: The new Doctor Who
That's most unfortunate, despite not having heard of Christopher Eccleston prior to watching the episode, I found admiration for his talent not just as an actor but in also the ability to capture the essence of previous Dr's in the series so perfectly. I'd find it hard to imagine anyone else filling the role as good as he did.
