Childhood Weaponry

Sticks and sawed-off branches made the best make-shift guns.

Large and long staffs made great spears.

Classic medium-sized sticks were wonderful swords.

Cut-up pizza boxes could become ace works of art and shields for the local knight in your family (with attached string, etc.).

Snapple bottle caps made great "throwing weapons" against armored kids in your neighborhood.

Bicycles were speedy mounts, chariots, tanks, fighter jets, and X-Wing/TIE Fighters.

Being an adult sucks when all you have is your trusty "Keyboard Joust."

Dustbin (read: trash can for those of you who insist on butchering the english language) lids always made great shields I found. If i couldn't ward off my brothers flaming arrows with one (and lets face it, they were made of plastic, so my odds weren't great) the smell at least did send him reiling

Wrong. Junior high featured a "phase" in which we bent paperclips in all sorts of directions and shot them into the ceiling while the teacher wasn't looking. A kid I knew had one fly back down and miss his eyeball by about a centimeter. He had a cute little cut just under his eye, heh.

Slivers of plywood made great knives/stillettos...

A well-made peg-gun can put a hole through anything*. I'm willing to bet that child warfare would be much more entertaining if they had peg-guns rather than paper clips.

They look quite good too.

Countries might have better warriors if child-imagined violence was allowed to flourish rather than "put that stick down, you'll hurt someone."

Slingshots, BB and pellet Guns, bows & arrows (with the rubber tips removed from the arrows and sharpened in a pencil sharpener), rocks, cherry bombs/silver salutes/M80s (when we could get 'em), lawn darts (before they were banned), assorted incendaries made from gasoline/lighter fluid, homemade cannons, and sundry pointed sticks and sharpened pieces of metal.

My personal favorite was a whip that one of my cousins made at summer camp. Now that could do a bit of damage.

My freshman year of high school some dumb fag was always throwing staples in my hair during home room...

Long story short he eventually tried to feel me up during class by placing his hand on my thigh whereby I grabbed a stapler from the nearby teacher's desk and slammed it against his leg.

I rule.

Each Haiku must contain a kigo, a season word, which indicate in which season the Haiku is set. For example, cherry blossoms indicate spring, snow indicate winter, and mosquitoes indicate summer, but the season word isn't always that obvious.
Read. Learn. There is much much more to haiku than 5-7-5 scansion.

rubber glove guns and balloon guns were great for firing rocks at the neighbours' roof.

a long pliable branch bowed with string between the ends with a few thinner sticks for weaponry made ace bow and arrow sets.

the good old pen tube for firing misc balls of things at people.

paddle pop stick ninja stars and flick knives were also handy.

ping-pong balls wrapped in foil to make smoke-bombs.

cardboard tubes for swords.

so many more I can't remember but oh so fun back in the day

Godwin's Law thus practically guarantees the existence of an upper bound on thread length in those groups. However there is also a widely- recognized codicil that any intentional triggering of Godwin's Law in order to invoke its thread-ending effects will be unsuccessful.

how could I have forgotten the most classic of all, one hand sized mirror + nice sunny day + eyes of victom = hours of fun.

oh also a favourite was throwing 'itchy pods' at people. we hade these trees that grew all over the schoolyard that contained black pods with little white furry seeds in them that itched like hell if you got it down your shirt.

bunch of faries the lot of you, an arm put through the open end of a pillow case with your wrist scrunched up at the other closed end (with some pillow case cloth in it to secure) meant that a pillow was an excellent shield. To counter act this strong defensive arsenal we used spare foot rules that one of my dads friends had given us (these are proper foot rules, the ones used on blackboards) we had to wear winter gloves in our right hands as we kept getting our knuckles wrapped.

our game of twat the hell out of each other ended when on of my friends had to be taken to hospital with a gash in his head.

Stick swords were popular, as well as pine cones; we had many cone wars in school, some involving the teachers, and some involving the vicars after teachers was hospitalized.
You could even combine the two, baseball style.
