Dont know if it was true though.

Ask Heartshunter, she's the last living expert on that part of legion history. (Well at least the last one that checks pa boards in any case).

Considering he was about as happy with Legion as the rest of us (the ones that left), I'd doubt it. They (Grendel) may have wanted him as Legion HC, but I doubt he'd have taken it even if he did keep playing after round 5. Although I may be wrong.

I think there's one or two more. But Hearts was closer to OpusX than most people.

You can't name one player, for the simple fact that most good players were in OUTSTANDING alliances.
The best player is STRIKEOF(insert what your imagination imagins here) gal whatever, who was a member of (lamest alliance) and was top 100. We will never know who that is because he didn't care enough about the game to brag about it.
It's just TRUTH.

Well being in the shadows through all the rounds..
tbh i would say Nodrog..
I consider a good play to be someone who can play well, play hard, and have a laugh.
For me Nodrog was always around when i wanted to ask questions, favours or just ask if he could get me defence
I know he hsnt played all the rounds, but that isnt what counts, it what you done witht e rounds you did play.
I must say that yes, most the the best mentioned so far are unclean.
I have first hand knowledge of some of this..
It is rather amazing what informatin leaks form a drunk alliance leader.
Fury had atleast 2farm planets per fury filled Gal.
Legion had 1farm +1scan in most gals.
This is consistant in all the free roids they compete in.
Yes p2p killed alot fo players,
But i am one who signs up for fun, i am not good, i dont try to be, i understand the game, and if i tried i probably could do well..
But i dont.
My vote is Nod, he played well, and didnt whine about it when things didnt go his way.
My close second would have to be
Micky
Micky1
Micky2
Micky3
etc etc etc
Complete farmage

Re: Best PA player through times?
Spinner would vote for me ofc.
But thats beside the point, the best player was never the one with the highest score (not that they werent good, cudos to the winners) the best players has always been the people sticking a clan together and making a good play at such.
Leaders of Concordium, Fury, Legion, Wolfpack , Bluetuba,NOS, Ely.. oh and everyone else who did their best in leading the great alliances gets my vote.
Can't decide on one person in particular tough.

In a PM to me during r5, he told me that Grendel had told him that he was on the top of the list for being asked to become Legion HC, but that because they knew he would say no anyway they asked Diamonds instead.
OpusX wasn't too happy about the turns Legion made during r5, with the reintroduction of WP - at least that's what he told me, and I was fairly close to him. However, I don't think that was the reason he would have said no. Rather, I think his significant other was putting some pressure on him to cut down and quit PA, and Opus wasn't exactly blind to the time requirements of being a HC.
He's also one of the very best PA players "ever" imo. He was a "balanced" player.

You said it yourself you didn't have Fury/Legion in your c37. I had 4 Triad galaxies in my cluster, which gave me plenty of incoming every day. (Because I didn't join their C-alliance etc.) Eventually TiG decided to bombard my planet :(

How was it done?
Serious activity on my behalf (i had to go 3 fleet roiding every day ... targets picked by me after usually an hour of scanning ... those fleets had to be sent during the day so my fleet was available at night to defend my gal/myself).
I had no alliance (not even a cluster one).
I had nobody (with the excpetion of Steve G's LOST gal next door) who i could get help from (i didnt get help outside of the Gal very often even at that if i remember correctly).
I got 6 or 7 people in my gal motivated and when the gal got attacked (which it did VERY often due to my roid count) i had to use my fleet to defend the others (the word "overkill" doesnt do justice to the escort fleets that were sent at me) so they still had a planet to keep them motivated (in the long run helping me).
As soon as i got to 3k roids id be roided.
Sid visited me twice in two days.
Grendel got some roids too (i got him back later in the round tho and left his planet as ash \o/).
A fair chunk of the rest of the Legion/Fury HQ had a go at me too.
I think i had 4 Fury/Legion gals in my cluster (not sure tho ... it was cluster 16 so someone might remember).
Anyways i ended the round on 102mil, rank 664 and my highest roid count (about 4k i think).
I think i was the top non Fury/Legion player at the end of the round.
That result got me into the same round 4 gal as Nod/Game etc which is another story.

Re: Best PA player through times?
Dace deserves something for all that hard work he did. It was almost unheard of for a non legion/fury player to be above a few million at the end of that round.
It was fun when Frag got chased all over the place in round 2 as well. Round 2 was difficult if you were on the wrong side as one hit could take your whole fleet.
I always liked Nodrog for his qualites as a player (one of those people who you would give ship stats and then come out with the best fleet combinations in an hour or two), understand the game politics and actually being a 'good guy' and a friend who would treat you the same no matter what your score was (more then can be said for a lot of 'top' players). Does that make me biased? Probably, but I don't care :)

Re: Best PA player through times?
Synthetic_Sid.
I think some people are taking this "Best player" thing overboard, heh. For the actual ingame gameplay, there is a very limited amount of "strategy" involved. Many players have "reached" very close to said limit in terms of comprehension & putting it to good use so there can never really be a "best" player, apart from the divider of consistency, which is ofcourse mainly dependant on political skill.
All of which is quite mastered upon by Sid.
Edit - to name one, of many.

you telling me that Legion/Fury rnd 3 attacked you cause you/your gal didnt join the cluster alliance, must have been mid through/late in the round? In my cluster we had more or less killed off the cluster "competition" within a couple of weeks, the talks which happened usually went.. "which gal should we kick out next", not which one should we let in.. but eventually i think we let everyone in.. cause basically they were to small to attack, and we wanted to make c32 the highest ranking cluster if i recall correctly, and if i am not mistaken we did that.. but i might be wrong =) long time ago...
when it comes to best pa player, imo i must say frag, cause when he played.. and that is "when".. i think it was mentioned that he got bored easily..which unfortunately was true.. =) but as i said.. when.. he was brilliant.. i dont know bout anyone who got around stats/fleet combos the way he did..
lots of other players I could mention.. but frag is in my mind at least still a step ahead..

Re: Best PA player through times?
Christ, who are these people who find the year-old threads and magically re-open them, heh.
I'll never know who was ever completely immune to dishonest activity in all the rounds they've ever played, so throwing honesty to the wind, mista gets my "thread re-hash" vote. From what he told me a year or two ago, he had a significant number of Round 2's top 100 planet logins (voluntarily given), and considering the guy spent all summer in his room, I'd say he wins this "who wasted their life away more" award.

Re: Best PA player through times?
i tend to care more about the community part of the game then the playign side of the game...but if i was going for score and skill it would have to be most of ely players round 7-9

Actually, I'm the culprit, as I got the thread reopened to post about OpusX.

Re: Best PA player through times?
I only read the last page, lazy as i am
But yeah guys like Lantador, Poppa, TiG (even tho he had a horrible taste in girls - that girlie from dawsons creek ffs?? ), they all had their moments of "wow"-calibre.
Winning a round is a superficial criterium to decide a good player imo, we've had guys with huge scores who couldn't figure out their own incomings and what was needed as defence against it. I'll take any guy with a keen understanding of the game dynamics anyday over the rest heh.
Tho i've decided, the best player must be our lovely MaTT/TheSpy whatever he called himself.
I heard he ran an entire bg on his own, all his 14 (give or take a couple) planets attacking together, mullering galaxies daily. Pet said it was R2 or something? And he was the sweetest guy ever, with obviously way too much time on his hands in that round

I never ran them on my own.
I finished pretty much in t50 virtually every round I played, except r7 where I was deleted (but look how many other people were deleted that round in the top ranks) and r8 where ViruS attacked me while I was sleeping, hell I would have easily have won r8 if that hadnt happened, pfft they had no honour.

I am happy to say i was part of the special xan team that killed you in ViruS. I was actually the BA of that attack and im glad it worked. and you wasnt 'asleep' as i even have the logs of where you went to 3 different alliances promisiong to join them if they defended.. but it didnt work

The best soap opera i've ever watched in Planetarion.
