tbh at this point any1 down to Vengeance in 8th have a chance of being 3rd, but my £1 bet is on that top 5. Now how about some odds?

All it takes for 1up is recruit a few more ppl. Ppl are standing in line. They would be stupid not to accept them in and win.

atm mistu is taking advantage of the 1up vs lch war. But rest asure, neither lch nor 1up will just let their war bring mistu to the victory. I think there are 3 alliances atm that make a shot on the #1 spot in the end, given that 1up will not be recruiting.

heh, it's not like it hasn't been done before (/me looks at Elysium). But I think 1up will value its values and not mass recruit to win this round.

I for one would have great respect for 1up if they were to genuinely be 'kingmakers'. If they were to pick an alliance that otherwise isn't expected to win and to bring them up they will have 'proven' themselves far more than they would have done by winning this round.

Here are the basic motivations behind 1up's leadership.

To paraphrase someone from many rounds ago "We don't play for your entertainment, but our own"

That said, several things make the game entertaining. Creating a community of people who are both of a similar caliber and temprament makes the game fun. Setting goals also makes the game fun. Achieving those goals is even more fun. Once you reach one goal, you should surpass it, and set one that is more challenging but still achievable.

1up's leadership knew before the alliance's creation that they could win a round in the conventional manner, ie block, stagnate, win, repeat. So they set a goal of playing the kind of alliance everyone knew was possible, but nobody had really ever bothered to pull off, the basically solo alliance with no permanent ties to any block. This goal was achieved to our satisfaction. Thus it is now time to set a new goal for ourselves.

Running a smaller alliance has many advantages, but its also in many ways more challenging. We will play at 2/3 capacity (per Sid's conditions set in another post) and we will do our best. We don't do it out of any "principle" or because we in any way care what the forum monkey's think. We do it because it is a new challenge for us.

We don't reasonably expect we'll take #1, but we will certainly work our hardest to get there, and we will take our satisfaction from achieving the challenges we have set for ourselves to our own satisfaction at the end of the round. We do expect to be a force to be reckoned with, and that we will greatly influence the politics of the round.
