The Cath DE Defence, if there is any

Hey folks,
i am a Cath this round. Not the biggest one, but my gal is under constant attack.
As my fleet i purely rely on

Beetles
Scarabs
Roaches
Black Widows
Scorpions and
Hornets.

This works like a charm in attacking, and if i wouldn't be attacked every second night i could have scratched the 1k roids border.
Ziks and Xans are easy to take, other Caths mostly too.
The fleet isn't bad in defending either, although it misses the scare factor.
But doh, we all know that since Caths exist.
Problem is:
I don't have anti DE against those pesky Terrans.
Question is:
Do you Cath players build the Defender, or do you rely on your galmates defence like I do?
The Defender is flaked by Scarabs, but is it really of any use against Terrans?
Do they care if you have some Defenders, but they can rip a decent hole in your FR Fleet?
My galmates are active and great, but if they got several waves incomming themselves defending becomes rather difficult.
Of course i do get anti DE from my alli, but if the Defender actually works for some of you, why not defend myself?
Any experiences, ideas, suggestions would be greatly welcome!

I got another question to throw in:

Tarantulas or beetles?
Pro Tarant:
They kill, they fit in your cr fleet!
Con Tarant:
They shoot last, they cannot defend your allie mates due to ETA.

Pro Beetle:
Fast enough for your mates! Emp and quite efficient.
Con Beetle:
The only CO in your fleet....

Armour/firepower are just a bonus, without a decent target or initiative any ship is shit. A dead ship wont kill a lot.

1) Against terran DE incs, they get wtfpwned. The drakes have killed them before firing even.
2) Xans dont send lancers with attackfleets normally, so against xan the ship is useless.
3) If a cathaar uses a DE/CR attackfleet and you defend against him, his roaches will freeze your defenders. When he sends guardians, it's even more fun. Lower init, so a lot of your frozen defenders also get killed.
4) I have yet to see the first zik to see sending clippers. Even if they do, clipper has lower init, your defenders get subbed and used against the defenders.

You see? Totally useless ship. Relay on your galmates/allaincemates for anti DE, the defender is worthless.

Im using them as flak for my Fr attack fleet. Tho I could argue with you that they flak nice against cath De/Cr and Zik De/Bs aswell in defence.

I wonder wtf you can attack with cathaar frigs anyways... You must be roiding newbies with no fleet or very bad fleetcompositions.

nah faking-cr vs zikos who are attacking with clippers+bs works just fine (aka mosqs etc+scorps to freeze corsairs etcetc)

Any decent DC keeps such possibilities in his/her head though. And covering a few hundred frigs (CR fleets usually aint THAT big) is easy. Not to meantion fleet analyse scans.

its a Cr/De fleet you are faking and they can be quite big

Tomorrow, or when I cba, I'll techscan some top 10/50/100 planets to see if you're right....

But anyways, such planets have normally more than enough anti FR to counter such eventualities, unless they are stupid.

And planets not in top100 have enough time to do scans, since they have less roids/HCT.
