IT ideas for a business

What sort of "tools" ie software or whatever would be useful to a expanding business.

For example a piece of software that allows me to control a users PC without having to travel the office. I know PCAnywhere does this, but is there any other known programs?

Any ideas whatsoever as to making IT oir generally office life easier would be appriciated, and the name of the software if possible.

Possibly list some of the tools that your company has?

Any info/ideas is most greatfully appriciated.

Thank you

I'd recommend VNC over PC Anywhere, as it's lighter and free.

In general though, it's hard to recommend other tools as you don't specify the nature of the business, the users, etc, etc...

VNC when controlling a Windows based machine, is about as bandwidth friendly as my pron downloads.

It is? I run VNC on my work machine, and use the viewer to access it from home. Is PC Anywhere faster? It's a very long time since I've used it you see.

Ive never used PCAnywhere so cant comment. Ive not used VNC for about 2 years now, but last time I used it the performance for a remote windows machine was atrocious. Over a slow connection it was unsable for me.

Thats not to say I dont belive in thin client / remote control software. I use Terminal Server regularly, and find it fairly responsive even over a modem. Far more efficient than VNC in my opinion. Its still a bit laggy when I use it on the move though, over a 9600 mobile connection .

someone has already said vnc for the remote desktop. i'd add configuring systems for remote admin is practical.

some sort of network inventory tool. we've hacked the data from this into our own little db which has been invaluable: network inventory navigator
very handy for cataloging just about anything regarding your PC's. software, hardware, drive space, etc..

some sort of centralised control and reporting for antivirus software. (i've only used McAfee products for a long while now, their ePolicy Orchestrator hooks itself into other vendors products)

a proxy server for web access and removal of external access to port 80, with log monitoring to see who's trying to use im/kazaa etc..
