1984
On tonight at 1am
Is it worth watching? I've never seen it before, and don't want to stay up until 1am for something pretty crappy.
Yes, I know "the book will be better", before anyone answers along those lines...

Re: 1984
Didn't they use one famous szene from it for that famous first Apple ad? Or is that not connected to the film?

Re: 1984
I quite liked the book actually. I only read it for the first time in the summer, and read it back to back next to A Brave New World (ta dace for remembering the name for me), which might have put me in an "woah what does the future hold" mindset.
When I say I liked it, I think it could have been done better. Like you said, Good idea but not so good writing. If it was redone it'd lose its charm and originality though.

Re: 1984
Well I didn't know if it was a reference to it. Or if they'd taken a scene from it and added their hammer-girl to it. What do I know? Not much obviously...

Re: 1984
The film isn't half bad, if you have read the book you'll have all the obvious disapointments that you get with watching anyone else's version other than the one you saw the first time in your head (but you know that), but on the whole you could do a lot worse.

Re: 1984
And even if you think it's shit, it includes full-frontal nudity, iirc.
(It's pretty a good film, actually.)

Re: 1984
The film is utter rubbish. It somehow manages to turn Nineteen Eighty-four into a long, dull, cheesefest. And when it isn't cheesy, it's just crap.

Re: 1984
The book is reasonably powerful in the ideas it portrays and invoke a fairly strong emotional response when I read it, but it's not particularly enjoyable (partially due to the problems in the writing style already mentioned).
