[UK Football] The "League" Cup

After a magnificent 3-0 victory over Sunderland tonight, I decided to be boring and look at the Carling Cup website and then the rules which govern what happens in the games. After a brief look at all the rules I found 2 which need looked at:
Quote:
11.2 The [TV Screens] screen shall not be used to show: -
11.2.1 action replays of negative or controversial incidents;
11.2.2 any incident which may bring into question the judgement of any Match Official;
So the FA / Football League are afraid of cock ups from match officials? Granted theres some logic in this (crowd unrest etc), so I carried on reading until I came to this beauty :

Quote:
In the Semi-Final and Final Rounds only, a sum equivalent to 6.3 per cent of the Net Cup Competition Gate shall be paid to The Football League as a levy to the County Football Associations. The remaining proceeds of each such match shall be divided between the two Clubs in question.
Lets break this one down for a second. If for example the final is held at Wembley Stadium, it takes gate recipts of a minimum £2.9 million (£45 * 65,000). Deduct all the various fee's payable and your left with around £2.5m, maybe £2.4m. 6.3% of £2.5m is approx £360,000. 3 leagues within the Football League means a payment of £120,000 per league which means out of £2.5m, each club in the Football League is given only £5,000.

And they wonder how the gap between the Premiership and the Football League has become so great.

It is very unusual that the rules for every FA-run competition are the same in every FA-run competition, I see your point.

It is good that Football League teams survive entirely on small donations from the later rounds of the League Cup, and similarly good that this money goes to the teams rather than League admin.

I am not sure how long this has been the case for the league cup or English leagues, but I know the FAW have been doing this for quite a few years. I agree it is stupid though, was immensely annoying having to watch the screens of tv reporters just to find out what the hell had happened.

Re: [UK Football] The "League" Cup

good thing you copied man utd then.

Sunderland, Wigan, Derby all lost to lower league opposition. I wouldnt bet against these being the three relegated teams either.

Re: [UK Football] The "League" Cup

our game was abandoned at half-time because one of the leicester players collapsed in the dressing room and was rushed to hospital.

Their fans cheered because they were being outplayed and losing 1-0...

Obviously football comes second but games aren't abandoned when a player gets a serious injury during the game (e.g. Cech) so it's a little frustrating that it did when it happened at half-time.

Darren Ward is our first choice goalkeeper, confirm/deny

I'd say losing Dean Whitehead for 6 months would be a better piece of evidence for us getting sucked into a relegation battle, do try to keep up.

After what happened in Sevilla I don't think they wanted to take any risks.

Re: [UK Football] The "League" Cup

I believe the rules regarding what can be reshown are the same for the leagues and both cups.

I agree with this one two levels.

Firstly, a lot of people who have been drinking and are on mass could cause quite a few incidents. It would also put pressure on referee's to rectify earlier mistakes if shown, and football shouldnt be like taht. Every incident should be judged on its own merits, not going down the line of giving a dodgy penalty cause there was one not given earlier.

As from a fans point of view, these incidents cause much discussion and atmosphere at football.
For instance, you might spend halftime talking about incidents. And it can get a lot of songs going when ref's make mistakes.
One might even say that referees making mistakes is GOOD for football atmosphere.
Take that away, and football could well get a lot more boring.
