Summer Meet
The weather has been stupendous lately, and (touch wood) it seems Summer has come early this year.
As such, I'd like to start organising a Summer Meet! This is for all our internet chums, from both GD and PB.
The date is way into the future, so you can all put it into your diaries, and make sure you don't double book it. It also means you students will be finished with your exams, and those who are overseas can investigate the cost of airfares.
The date proposed is Saturday July 14th in London.
Plans will need to be made more concrete nearer the time, but I'm thinking a picnic in one of the parks (Regents or Hyde, most likely) and then maybe onto a beer garden on the Thames. If it gets too chilly in the evening we can always retreat into a bar on the riverfront.
I'll keep updating the list of people coming, and any updates to the plan, in this post.
Confirmed:
TomKat
furball
Blastoderm
Deepflow
Kila
skiddy
Benneh
idimmu
Minty
pig
Dark Skragg
midge5
roadrunner_0
Ste
Alki
Probable:
T&F
jerome
Zar
Hicks
All Systems Go

Re: Summer Meet
I might attend but it depends on a multitude of factors. One of which is if I can be bothered travelling for five hours by train, bus and underground.

Why would I arrange a meet somewhere I don't live?

You pay a deposit for a picnic reservation in Regent or Hyde Park?

I'd give it atleast another 15 years before we have to start paying to protest/eat picnics in parks.

The marquee company/jazz band were only available for that day

I have no idea where you'd buy a picnic hamper from anyway. Blankets are a bit of an organisational push, too.
I was more thinking along the lines of beers and pimms, with some food bought from Tesco earlier in the day. It's not going to be pork pies and boiled eggs, finished off with a nice strawberry Victoria spongecake prepared the night before, Robert.

Re: Summer Meet
Big under estimate Blasto, you took the figure for a normal internet forum picnic meet which would include girls. As you know GD is all male which makes the figure at least 7, 8 if you take account of the Tomkat factor.

I like the picnic idea, just a load of food, beers, wine, chit chat, a football, frisbee etc.
Should be really good fun

I just went to Newcastle and back during the Easter Bank Holiday weekend when Arsenal played up there and I can say that a 3 hour journey on the train is not that bad at all.

Re: Summer Meet
Im not going to anywhere with butts or buttmusic.
Tomkat:
What time are you thinking (roughly hommes) for the whole pic-a-nic idea.
I was categorically saying 'no' before but i had a look at the options.
Bus would be unbearable.
Train would be £50 (and still too long)
BUT
If i got the plane (and booked it asap) it'd be £20 return, sat morn -> mon morn. Obviously i'll speak to peter about this shit as well and see if he'd get his fatty porking ass in gear for this.
Money, time are issues; plus i'd lose a lot of my wiggle room at home ('i never take holidays'). But henry has kindly offered me a floor for a night.. accom would be the next thing to sort.
Mulling it over
