With all that power you could have used it for something useful, like that cure for cancer thingy.

i think "boast" and "Seti@home" can't be used in the same sentence unless it also contains "don't" and "about".

Because, would you want an alien life finding you that will most likely treat you like Western Culture treated its colonies during the times of imperlisism. Not to mention its a waste of time and money when running the other program that has medical benifets would be more hopeful of our future.

It's their choice to run SETI. That amount of computing power won't affect the discovery of a cure for cancer that much.

You thin SETI is actually worth time and money considering how vast space is?

Well, given the possible payoff if it works, yes.
It's not exactly a 'waste' of money as it wouldn't be used for more useful things.

Imperlism anyone. Do you really think any race that can travel faster then the speed of light would waste their time with us. To them, we would be cattle.

We are in no place to judge extraterrestrial cultures, nor to comment on the existance of FTL travel.
Except that by current models, it's impossible by conventional means.

That's the point. SETI is trying to find them, not the other way round.

No they didn't.
It wasn't a suggestion of the model that FTS travel was impossible, as Newtonian Mechanics allow for infinite velocity.
The same is not true under Special Relativity.

I understood it to be more an issue of energy--being that the few "feasable" theories required ridiculous amounts of it--rather than the very notion of FTL travel being impossible?
