I for one do, as we as members are obliged to copy/paste the status page on a regular basis, to see who is defending who etc, that way once a planet becomes known as belonging to a particular alliance it becomes easy to find others of the same allie

so you are saying that in effect everyone is spying on everyone else anyway - difference is most people care about their round so won;t get their gal hit and provide specific intelligence on the gal

That is exactly what I am saying, although my particular alliance has a policy not to attack any galaxies with members within it, except where there are hostile planets, ie; those that have already attacked one of our members.
I know that LCH and 1up have a similar policy (or had in past rounds) they also gather intel in the same way.
It is an effective way to determine who is in which alliance and their locations etc.... and a perfectly valid tactic.

Re: Freebie Spies
A wargame without spies, you might as well remove attacking as well since I really dont want my planet to lose roids/ships. Infact lets just see who can initiate the most roids, that sounds like fun

Your missing the point of this discussion by a mile.
Intel gathering via incomming etc in a valid tactic and being used since round 1.
Getting ppl to signup (or multi) a free account to get gals hit without needing probes and then move to the next gal is IMHO not a valid tactic, and thats what we are discussing here.

Anyways, I was not accusing you, but you were asking where such tactics as signing up multi-freebie-accounts to spy would lead to and I think VNC would fit perfectly into that scheme.

Re: Freebie Spies
The entire point is that there should be. Since it's not possible to form a rule that won't unjustly affect normal players, we must control their actions.
Just banning Cruisie from playing Planetarion should settle it fairly easily.

No rule, no. But why should someone who doesnt pay, be able to ruin the game for people who does. Many of them?
And even tho it isnt cheating(necessarily) its still fked up, and certain people seem to do/care fk all about it.
Pisses me off
