Just watching Spy Game
and to cut through all the crap i think it boils down to this:
"Would you spend the rest of your life (or at least 20 years) in prison in exchange for the life of a sibling/other family member/your closest friend?"
So would you?

Yes.
Although I may end my own life as well if this was an option.

Re: Just watching Spy Game
Boogster i think the neg rep comes from you not being willing to exchange 20 years of your life for the TOTAL life of someone close to you.

But why should I? I would be perfectly willing to, say, jump into the path of a moving vehicle in order to save my little sister from being run over. However, if my Dad had just killed a man, why should he escape just punishment?

Re: Just watching Spy Game
Don't get me wrong
I'm really not souped
Ego trips is not my thing
All these strange relationships really gets me down
I see nothing wrong in spreading myself around
Everybody's talking all this stuff about me
Why don't they just let me live?
I don't need permission, make my own decisions
That's my prerogative

I'm with boogster, are you saying we actually shouldn't be responsible for our actions here?

Re: Just watching Spy Game
I suppose so. Although saying that, this situation is totally hypothetical and so a lot would depend on the circumstances. Let's just hope it never comes to it!

Re: Just watching Spy Game
i would say "take me to prison", in the knowledge that the 'victim' would say "koen, don't do it!!! i'm not worth it. live your life, don't worry about me".
then i would let him/her win the arguement. i wouldn't have to go to prison and people would still think i'm a hero.
i've seen this in movies.

It depends whether you think capital punishment could be just punishment or not (I do, but many do not).
In answer to the original question, yes I would for a few people, but none of them are relatives.
If I thought my father (for example) had molested / killed a bunch of kids I would seriously consider killing him myself. You've got to deal with your own, etc.

Re: Just watching Spy Game
Yeah well what i meant was that in the film Redford isn't actually offering an exchange of his life in prison for the life of Pitt.
HOWEVER he did **** the security agency (impersonating a superior officer, illegal use of materiel, risking an international incident) and as such if he was ever "caught" i just figured he would spend a long time in jail for it (however Pitt would be alive so ...).
So how about in that situation ... Would you do what Redford's character had done?*

Re: Just watching Spy Game
I'd have to say yes, simply because the people who I would do it for are resourceful enough to have me out of prison and in another country within a month.
