Re: So, is this true ?
Ive often said that if theres something that i particularly like im highly likely to go out and buy it on CD. The reason being that the quality is almost inevitably better and i dont pick it up and think 'now....wtf is on this cdr..' when im driving.
Im surprised the RIAA hasnt picked up on this before now....

Seems a bit odd to me. Why pay to download something when you know where to go to get it for free?

Because you can't get physical CDs for free. There are a strangely high number of people who like owning the physical product, or the "officialness" you get with even on-line purchases. Most of the people who I know who own a stupidly high number of CDs/DVDs/etc also have a very impressive amount of downloaded materials. They're just consumer whores usually.
Or they might just want to support the artist, but I doubt it.

People who download illegally are obviously degenerates high on drugs, and therefore their reasoning is impaired.
That's what the music industry says, anyway.

You don't have any music, Henry. All you have is a single Glenn Miller album that you found in a skip round the back of Woolworths.

The article is talking about legal downloads, not legally buying physical albums. What's the difference between a legally downloaded mp3 and an ilegally downloaded mp3? The only difference I can think of is that one is more expensive. Why go for the expensive option?

Re: So, is this true ?
If an album comes out by one of my favourite bands comes out (Green Day, Whites Stripes, NOFX etc..) then I will go out and buy it.
If an album comes out by a band I'm unsure about I will download it first and add it to my list of CDs to buy or delete it.
I never pay to download music as it seems a waste of money, especially if I plan to buy it at a later date.

Re: So, is this true ?
Its not true at all, i dont pay a ****ing penny for music unless i have a ridiculously good reason to.
For example, HMV was selling the Best of the Kinks for £2.99
Thats the sort of price every CD should be, then id think about it.

That is a ridiculously good reason.
I did a News paper feature on this when i was a journalist and most of the smaller record labels in New Zealand actively encouraged free downloads and one in particular has grown really big because of this reason.
It's pretty obvious that people who love music, love buying music, and the people that arent bothered either way dont care if they get it free. It'll always be that way.
