Sim-Tech a subsidiary of ...
After an afternoon's research, I've finally pieced together most of the puzzle, and its not pretty.

Sim-Tech is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Xanadu alliance. Apparently its the wing that programmed their bots from round 3 on.

Someone ran the numbers and discovered that the bots would be MUCH more efficient if they were just hard coded in with Planetarion. Who could pass up the opportunity?

Sim-Tech bought Planetarion for a song and a promise to let Fudge continue using the cot at PA HQ for a few weeks, and then sold the Round 1-7 contact lists to porn advertisers across the world for a bundle, funding further bot technology.

Diabolical.

What you don't realise is that a little known but incredibly wealthly alliance is about to buy out Sim-Tech and Xanadu. We will then re-code the game so that the smaller people become invunrible and able to finally roid all the big alliances who have raped them for so long.

Better than I came up with....
After extensive research - well ok, one google search - Sim-Tech either makes enviromental sewage filters (http://www.gag-simtech.com/system.htm) or has gone belly-up already (http://www.gamestop10.com/gamecompanies.htm - and click on sim-tech).

I think I'll vote for the Xanadu option - Dkr was always there when I needed him.
