Re: The Ultimate Nerd Collection
One of my best friends already pretty much all of Trek on VHS & DVD so there wouldn't be much point in me buying it.
I am a nerd though.

Re: The Ultimate Nerd Collection
Anyone know if there are any plans to make another spin-off?

Re: The Ultimate Nerd Collection
I think after the poor showing of Enterprise they are going to "rest" the franchise for a while, at least in TV series form. They may well be looking at one-off TV movies and the like.

Star Trek is one of the worst shows known to science.

Hardly. It has reasonable production values, ok, if not spectacular, writing most of the time and has decent actors in it.

Re: The Ultimate Nerd Collection
I only really like shows with depth, apart from cartoons such as Family Guy etc.
Of the bits of various seasons and versions of ST that I've seen, there is very little in the way of plot continuity between episodes except for generalised concepts or goals, and the show seems to very much be "reset" for the next episode.
I am aware Enterprise tried to fix this, but it didn't do it very well.
If you want to watch Sci-Fi there are much better shows out there, namely BSG and Firefly (which may yet still be resurrected apparently). This is probably down to the fact they are much more character orientated rather than "omgs: space! with lasers!! and SPANDEX!!!". Stargate is also acceptable, although I personally I don't watch it.

That still doesn't make it "one of the worst shows known to science".

Re: The Ultimate Nerd Collection
In support of meggles point (but also because old people like telling stories) I remember back in the old days whn Babylon 5 hit the wireless with pictures. It was revolutionary as the first sci-fi to have a real plot. This dramatic decision allowed for concepts alien to star trek such as 'character developement' 'changing and subjective moral attitudes' and 'continuity'.
star trek was exposed as the 2 dimensional space cowboy dross we have lived with for far too long.
(plus star trek will never be forgiven for giving the world shatner ...)

Re: The Ultimate Nerd Collection
I must admit that Shatner will never cease to amuse. Especially his terrible "talkover" albums.

Has Been is fairly obviously a self-depreciation schtick. It's called HAS BEEN, for Christ's sake.

B5 Rocks... It is the best sci-fi universe I know if. It may be even better than cyberpunk. For the first time I totally agree with Yahwe.
Star Trek has its place*.

Re: The Ultimate Nerd Collection
I don't think many disagree that Trek is inferior to B5. That doesn't mean all of Trek is entirely without merit however.
