I attacked a planet but did a news scan at eta 3 and did not see any defense heading to the planet. When I landed around 95% of my fleet was wiped out by fleet that was sent by other planets.

My question is : Why ? and how is it possible for this to happen ?

I have the scans (news and unit of the target planet) + the combat report but I would only email these into PA.

news scans doesn´t show the last 4 ticks, so you prolly faced a lot of ingal defence that didn´t show up on your news scan

Yes newsscans are -3 hours so in gal defence shows on planet news at eta 4 and on a newsscan at eta 1. Looks like he recieved lots of in gal defence. Read the manual

There are 2 solutions on how to avoid this in the future:

1. Do a news scan at eta 1
2. Research Jupgate Probe and do a jumpgate probe scan at your target at eta 4 or less

Researching the wave tech tree and building enough amps cannot come recommended highly enough. Infact, IMO, it's almost compulsory if you don't have an alliance!
