The example above seems to me like blatant scaremongering. I mean, its a known fact Paedophiles exist. Its a known fact they exist in small groups, sometimes very organised , but in the majority theyre individuals. When stories like this hit the press, im really tempted to explain there are millions of people in this country , and there are thousands of crimes being committed every day, or which Paedophilia and acts of that nature are an absoloutely tiny proportion to which an unbelievable amount of resources are being funnelled.

Can someone with a law-minded education please post a few stats showing the levels of crime across the uk , the percentage of which are sex related crimes , and the percentage of sex crimes which involve under age sex or sexual abuse? I genuinely want to see how many offences have been committed, and how many convictions attained in this area in comparison to say, sexual assaults on women, or even Physical Assaults on pensioners. Im betting a pensioner getting mugged by a junkie and breaking her hip doesnt warrant half the resources that a rumoured paedophile in a housing estate does.

I remember seeing a statistic that most crimes related to child rape/abduction are committed by someone known to the child and their family.

As are the majority of assaults & murders. Its a well known tactic for Police to interview friends and family when a crime has been committed before looking for known offenders in an area.

"The Parameters of Grooming"

Its fair and perhaps accurate to say that the advancement of the internet and the chatrooms filled with kids are like a glittering prize to Paedophiles, but the fact of the matter is, where do you draw the line in this? Chatrooms are already monitored to a degree that makes Big Brother look like a sellotaped Handycam on the wall of a junk shop, and the nanny state we live in is quickly developing laws to cope with anything that the public shows the slightest concern about. What happened to the times when a public outcry resulted in a proper debate and legislation that was well thought out, fair and just? Some would argue the world has changed and that kind of thinking without acting will result in some terrible event to occur.

Kneejerk legislation has always been a horrific failure, and frequently has to be rewritten or removed altogether because when a good lawyer gets his hands on it, he just picks it apart. Im all for harsher sentences for Paedophiles, but at the same time , im all for considerably harsher penalties for repeat offenders such as burglars , muggers and drug dealers. Im not suggesting 3 strikes and youre out, but when i see a junkie getting sentenced to 3 months in Prison for his 27th offence because thats the tariff, I do start to wonder whats actually happened to the concept of Justice.

As well as any other house with no floorboards downstairs, the plaster removed from the walls and no power downstairs

Thanks to a friend of Heidi's we now have somewhere to stay for the next 6 montyhs while all is repaired and hopefully a 50ft deep moat is dug. The new house has cable which is nice and in the next week or 2 we will have the 2m cable intarweb to replace the 512k we have atm.

We've been staying at my sisters and my mothers for the last 2 weeks and I never EVER want to use dial up intarweb again, ever.

I will kill to prevent it if I have to.
