Teeth.

Anyone ever had a tooth pulled? I had one of my wisdom teeth yanked out the other day (by a dentist). I thought it was supposed to hurt?

Re: Teeth.

Ive had a lot of teeth removed (I had too many to fit in my mouth apparently so they had to take several out before I got my brace ) and the only part that hurts is the injections beforehand to anaesthatise(sp?) it. Wisdom teeth are supposed to be particularly nasty ones to have removed though...its more usually done in a hospital as a proper surgical thing.

I always found it more as a vague discomfort as I would be aware of this kind of crunching feeling as they got a grip on it and twisted it out.

Re: Teeth.

I've had about 10 baby teeth and 4 adult teeth taken out, for the same reason as Ebany. It didn't really hurt but it carried on bleeding for about a day, and it was impossible to talk and it was probably the world thing ever.

Re: Teeth.

it probably hurts if the dentist just gives you a slug of bourbon and then kneels on your chest to pull it out with a pair of pliers

Re: Teeth.

nothing 'hurt' per se ( i had to have 4 removed because my mouth was too compacted before a brace) but i remember it being fairly traumatic. i was only young (10 or something) and although there was no pain he was yanking things out of my mouth.

and some of them didnt want to leave.

no pain but it was emotionally scarring

Re: Teeth.

Back when I were a wee nipper (like 10 or something) I had to have one of my baby teeth pulled cos it wasn't falling out as the new tooth was coming through so the nerve in it had died and gone all manky and stuff...
...so had the injection (hurt a bit) and then they just whipped out the pliers (i'm sure there's a technical dentistry name for them, but they were pliers) and yanked and i could feel the vibrations of it cracking and stuff, which made me cringe even though it didn't hurt. Having a numb face is cool though.

On a slightly worse note, one of my mates at uni was telling me her dad needed a tooth pulled, and when they came to do the injection they managed to ram the needle right into the nerve of his tooth and injected right onto it - needless to say much swearing followed this, as it's apparently one of the most painful things ever. I guess if you imagine acute toothache and then imagine someone poking the inside of the tooth with a sharp object, you could get close.

Re: Teeth.

I had 4 molars yanked out with big hefty pliers, I had 10 numbing injections done though, after that, it felt my jaw was the size of a melon and I couldn't swallow saliva to a good 1hr and was dribbling everywhere.

Re: Teeth.

I had 2 wisdom teeth pulled out last monday, didn't hurt a bit, I had the 2 others removed by a specialist that had to cut and yank and cut and slice and dice, and the next few days were ****ing painful.

Basic pulling doesn't really hurt much unless you're unlucky, it's the tricky bastards that you can't simply pull that gives you ****ing agony.l

Re: Teeth.

i remember the days when they used to put the whole of you to sleep and not just a little bit. the first time you woke up after you had it done it was a bit upsetting i dunno why, but the second time it was you were floating and stuff it was really good. obviously, now they just numb the area which isn't as fun, apart from hitting but then the bruise isn't as fun when you can feel the pain.

incidentally,my wisdom are just coming through. my dad said he didn't get his until 40. what does this mean?
