Another thread about the reputation system
I have just been thinking how nice it would be if you could see how much clout each rep point had. e.g. in the list of rep in the cp, it says how many points each rep gave you
just a thought

Re: Another thread about the reputation system
While I am a benefactor from such a system, I don't really like the massive variance in reputation points that users can distribute. While I can see the need to guard against people reg'ing accts purely to dish out "points", it seems unfair that some users can effect reputation a lot more than others.

Perhaps something akin to the avatar requirement. Newbie => minimal rep points; Regular => standard amount of rep points.
That aside, the rep system mostly seems to operate as a tool for groupthink. :/

Re: Another thread about the reputation system
I don't think the reputation system is supposed to be "open", the user cp just allows you to make sure people aren't being blatantly unfair, so you can compain to JammyJim or JonnyBGood.

Yeah, but if the forum software doesn't provide checks against random accounts, we'd have to manage some of that ourselves, which is difficult with anonymous rep. Any suggestions?

Re: Another thread about the reputation system
My e-penis is so big I have to hire someone to carry it for me to avoid dragging it on the ground.
The reputation system is an amusingly contentious issue. Personally I'd like to see it reformatted in a far more totalitarian fashion for some internet humour bonus points?
I'm not quite sure why the previous sentence has a question mark at the end

Tact just suggested a reasonable solution (one I was going to mention btw ). You have the enfranchised (who can vote) and the unenfranchised (who cannot). The latter are formed of people with less than 500 posts or six months "active" account status.
It seems ridiculous that I (for instance) should have twice the votes as someone else who is also a regular here just because I've posted 9000 drivel filled more posts than them.

Personally, I see the current system more as a way of presenting a posters sexual prowess and attractiveness to the opposite sex.
Those with green dots are virgins, the more dots you have the further you are away from ever being laid,
while the red ones indicate the studs and super studs among us.

No, since pig has 6 green dots yet seems to possess considerable prowess (drunken prowess anyway).

Blobbashing and rep-blocks are the order of the day. Perhaps JJ should put in a neg-cap so that the big guys can't neg the small dudes.
It's PA - round 3 all over again.
Luckilly we don't have to choose between Tarantulas and Battleships... yet.

Everyone is so green-blobbed up, that the only unusual people are those with a plethora of red blobs. And we all know they're shit, anyway.
Reset the rep every month or so! Then we have to claw our way back up the rep ladder

Or modify the rep so it's a rolling count from the past two weeks or something.

Re: Another thread about the reputation system
i think it shud be mandatory to leave a reason for your rep (negative or positive) as people dont leave reasons and the people who get neg repped are left wondering what they have done wrong..
i have mentioned this in another thread any chance we could make it happen??

I think I am the rookie of the month on GD. Everyone knows me!!! I think people negrepped me out of spite. I soaked up all of the negreps. Being negrepped isn't all that bad. Hey, did you know when famous killers have movies made about thier lives they get payed millions for it? Bad is good.

I don't think mr Newton intended his formulae to be applied to good and bad.
