That new type of earphone...
...is really ace.
I'm talking about ones like these and these. They fit really securely (actually into your ear canal rather than resting outside it like traditional ones) and sound bloody fantastic - easily the best sound I've experienced from something so small. I got the first ones I linked to for christmas. They come with interchangeable end bits (which are sort of soft rubber) - small, medium and large. Apparently it's important to get the right size or the bass response sucks, but it's fairly obvious as you can't get them in if they're too big and they just fall out if they're too small.
The only difference between the Sony ones and the JVC ones so far as I can see is that the Sony ones have a sort of "soft" cord that is easier to manage and is less plasticy, but soundwise they should be fairly identical.
I'd recommend them (or other brands using the same approach) to anyone who uses earphones really.

I got some but can't seem to fit them in. Can you explain exactly how to wear them?

The rubbery bit goes into your ear canal - you know, the bit you stick your finger in and wiggle when cleaning out your ears (assuming you do that). If yours came with different size rubbery bits, try all of them until you find the best fit. When it's fitting well it will sound like you're wearing closed headphones (note HEAD, not ear) in that outside noise will be heavily muffled etc.

Re: That new type of earphone...
I have had a pair of the Sony ones for about three years.
Yes they are ace, but certainly not new.

Re: That new type of earphone...
Oh well. New to me anyway.
The first time I saw that type was maybe 3 months ago. Where did you get them 3 years ago?

Re: That new type of earphone...
I remember the day I bought them well. It was a school day when I had to run into Dixons to hide from someone who wanted to "bust my face in" because I "called his mother a whore".
Oh what fun Reading was whilst wearing my school uniform.
Back on topic:
I bought the Apple ones which looked similar when I got my mini iPod last year. However they were rubbish in comparison and broke after about 4 months.
