Has every single Iraq thread been exactly the same? Person 1 says we should nuke them, person 2 says we need oil, person 3 (sarcastically or not) says that we're not in it for the oil, people debate oil. Why continue making threads?

History shows that democracy can't be forced like the US thinks in Iraq.

Just look at WW1. In its aftermath, a bunch of countries in Europe who had no or little history of democracy went 'democracy, yay', and then in a few years most of them were back to the same old tyrannies. This did not happen in the countries where democracy had a history (such as the Scandinavian countries, UK etc).

I think it takes time before the idea of democracy can be installed in the majority of a people, especially one that is not very well educated.

The process of reaching the level of democracy we have here in western Europe for instance lasted over several hundred years. Try to force it on somone who won't understand and don't like it, and things go wrong.

Doesn't that sound good?
