Ah, I see now. Heh, well it would take a lot of special 'skill' to damage the processor by cleaning the heatsink - just be sure to remove the fan only and not try to dislodge the solid metal block of the heatsink itself...
And no water damnit
edit - in case you are wondering how I know all this, my computer was giving me hassles a little while back by freezing periodically whilst giving out a series of diagonistic beeps. I though it was the processor overheating so I decided to clean the heat sink since I'd had the machine for over two years without so much as blowing at the dust. Anywho, my old man was up here on holiday at the time and he's an electrical techie with 20+ years in the job behind him so I figured he'd know a few things about cleaning electric circuits. He ended up pulling out a tissue and a few cotton buds... the trick of it you see is to NOT push the dust down further into the sink but rather scrap it off and place the dust on the tissue. That's probably the best advise I can give you.
Concidentally, the problem turned out to not be the processor at all, but the hard drive. Shortly after we went to the trouble of cleaning the damn thing I started getting S.M.A.R.T failures... shortly followed by cyclic redunancy errors
I saved most of my data.

Maybe we can play sometime, when you get this fixed.

I look forward to it. I have had some play with sound now and my k/d ratio has mostly gone up as a result of this extra sensory dimension. I still mostly play Assault and AV. Interestingly, very few other people seem to opt for AV and those that do aren't very good at it - in my experience anyway.
Interesting you should mention the hard drive there Hewitt, because that's almost as hot as the processor when I open the case up after the wretched beeping.
Still, nothing that can't be solved with more fans and heat sinks.

*Ten thousand warning klaxxons are presently mentally erupting within his head.*
Does the computer sometimes stall when this 'wretched beeping' occurs?

Re: Planet Wars: Redux
Nope. Just beeps. Generally speaking I take the beeping as a sign that something uncool is happening and shut down the PC as quickly as possible.

Re: Planet Wars: Redux
M'kay then. Well, good luck with the repairs then... if the fans do not work you might want to take it in to a repair shop... they'll likely tell you your hard drive is f*cked and then ask for their fee... but then what do I know? I'm doing a science course.

Ah well, if you get around to it I can be found on *Delete* most of the time (around 8ish, once I get through this summer course I'm taking, EST of course, I should be on earlier on the weekends. Much earlier.)
Darkling - I am taking the assumption that the IP is for a game server considering the topic of conversation as well as otehr things though I could be wrong on that, but still might be better if keep its kept in private message all the same just to be on the safe side.

Well, fair enough there Dark. Good to know you're watching over us.
Lakhim, go ahead and PM the server to me and I'll take a look-see at some point.

Re: Planet Wars: Redux
NEWSFLASH!!!!!!!
With the recent demise of ND from the realm of RPing, PW has passed from his hands in to the grubby mits of mine and IB's.
We are now currently in the process of (once again) remaking PW, so if you are intrested pls post (p.s. the next thread will probably be continuing on from where the old one left off, but no promises on that front just yet). The new one will be simpler and much more fun (I hope...)

Re: Planet Wars: Redux
There are no plans for a restart, your current planets would be transferred into the new system. This is effectivley so we don't have to spend forever moderating like was the case previously.
