Arrogant, Short-Tempered People
How can I win an argument (heated) where-by the person concerned has the 2 attributes in the thread title and results to swearing, repetition etc. ? These arugments happen on a daily basis so I would like to know - ta

Take your pick!
Also, using about four or five of the fallacious arguments together works pretty well.

Maybe you're wrong so his confidence and short temper are justified.

Arguments are never about who's right and who's wrong queball. They're about how often you can repeat the same meaningless banalities in the space of five minutes.

Re: Arrogant, Short-Tempered People
Pretty much. The idea is to annoy the other person until they figure out how to take part in a rational argument.

Most people use some kind of ass spelunking device for that Jonny. You didnt have to do it manually.

I initially read this thread title as 'Arrogant, Short, Tempered People', and I was wondering why you were having a problem discussing things with midgets.

Usually by breaking their face.
Or by making their mother take your viewpoint and then watch them argue it with the same zest.

Because your last sentence made it plain that it wasn't a rhetorical question.

Re: Arrogant, Short-Tempered People
What do you mean by 'win' the argument? What do you want to do? Impress the other people listening to it? Make them see the error of their ways and admit they were wrong? The latter is rare and having the last word usually just means no-one can be bothered to reply (it certainly does on this forum).
Either way I would suggest being totally reasonable and dispassionate. If someone is shouting, etc then let them continue until they get tired of it (this may take a while). When they have stopped, confirm they have finished (this will make them continue). When this is done, advise them their concerns about X or Y is warranted and you share them, to an extent. It's pretty hard to be angry at someone who is disagreeing with you.
Once you've done this you can try various things, but one thing worth doing is a sales technique. It basically relies on establishing a key bone of contention and confirming this with the person. So, as a random example (from a sales point-of-view) :
"I see why you'd have concerns about the price Mr Smith, and of course it's warranted. But if I'm understanding you correctly you would buy the product today if only the delivery didn't cost so much. Is that right?"
"Yes."
"Ok, well what about this : We'll get you delivery absolutley free."
After this you feel a bit stupid saying no, so you're kind of forced into accepting their argument/sale.
If you're arguing to a crowd then it's different and you might want to use all the stupid tricks mentioned above. I wouldn't though, I personally find reasonableness always wins. In the long run.
