Old Games
So I'm at home now, back from uni for a couple of weeks.
I was looking through all my old games, and one caught my eye - The 7th Guest.
I loved it. And now I have this huge craving for its puzzley goodness.
But it won't work!
I managed to make a boot disk to give me the extra conventional memory, so I could open the install screen.
Sense of achievement+++++++
But now it won't detect my soundcard on this computer (have to run the game through DOS), and the game won't run without sound.
I've been fiddling with the files on the bootdisk to make it work, but it just won't
I'm so depressed now

Re: Old Games
DOSbox didn't work.
Some crap about me not having MSCDEX when I actually do have it installed.

Re: Old Games
As nice as DOSBox and VDMSound "Abandoned Games Loader" (might as well try it) are, I was never really satisfied with them.
Pure real DOS boot disk, first correct step.
It goes on with finding good old dos drivers and having a FAT partition somewhere (or doing it all from a bootable cd). You can then do the oldschool approach: Install dos drivers, tune config.sys and autoexec.bat, fiddle around, have fun.

Re: Old Games
Aha, the MSCDEX problem was just me being thick as I didn't mount the CDROM drive as a cdrom.
The game works! But it's quite jerky, and there's no speech. So it makes it rubbish, kind of
I'm on Windows 98 at home too, so VDMSound won't help here.
Stupid game!

I've been playing Theme Hospital again recently.
I would have been playing Ascendancy but i can't get that to work on XP, despite a friend being able to.
Clearly i just suck.
