Once I asked for 20 pounds cashback. I signed off for it and walked out the shop but then couldn't find the 20 pounds! Pah. That was in a Sainsbury's as well.

Write a letter to the managing director of Sainsbury's asking for the bank charge to be refunded. Enclose a copy of your bank statement. Explain the hardship you've faced.

p.s. : According to my bank statement between May 14th and June 14th I spent seven thousand pounds.

Well the 7k was made up mainly of gambling wins, my salary, borrowed money and a seperate loan.

It was spent on dancing whores. (And rent, drink, food, paying some debts back, gambling losses, drugs, etc).

it wouldnt have mattered if she undid the mistake because the money would have already come off, hence the instaneous fine would still be levied.

You could have got her to cancel it and put it through again but as £13... Why would that be a problem?

Bank charges 20 pound on all transactions that go over the overdraft limit. She withdraws 30 pound, fine is levied. Even if 17 pound of that is put back in, the fine would still stand.

And surely if you made her correct it at the time, even if a charge was still given, you would have a better case asking for the £20 from them?

Assuming their tills are an ikkle bit like ours the money would have already come out even if she cancelled it. Goes into a bank holding account and floats round for a few days. They normally claim it back off us as the bank never gives em it back. Assuming they aint live on chip and pin.

i went over my overdraft limit by 50 quid on my last night out in manchester.

if youre going over you have to go RIGHT over cos they wont let you keep asking afterwards

i dont have an overdraft.

however in the brief instances where my account has gone -£1.20 or -£10 because various transactions havnt gone through and ive presumed ive had more than i actually have ive not once been charged.

Ive had one letter saying 'your not authorised to do this. change it now or do not pass go do not collect £200'

but theyve never fined me the £50 they mentioned so wahey for HSBC.

I'd have thought ANY student account wouldn't do that due to students commonly going over.

With HSBC, if i need to temporarily extend my overdraft i phone up and they say fine, then anything over my original limit i'm charged like 3% interest. If i just go over my limit without having agreed an extension it's like 10% interest.

There's no actual fee and even 10%/year on £50 for a few days isn't worth worrying about really.

In that case you should have taken it up with her manager. It is required for the slip to be signed BEFORE the transaction is authorised for the simple reason that once it's been authorised there would be nothing to stop you signing it "Mickey Mouse" and walking off with the goods.
