Ok, but the post you were responding to was about reducing the amount of energy in an appliance. Energy production is generally going to have a cost as you say, so the easiest way to get "wins" in this area is to save power in the first place. Fortunately energy prices will make that much attractive as time goes on.

Well, of course not. Nothing is, even the glorious path of socialism. But reducing the meat content of the Western diet would certainly be a step in the right direction for land/water/energy use reasons.
Don't get me wrong, I'm a committed meat eater and I'm sure we're all familiar with my views on animal rights. However, I think it's fairly obvious that our current diet, with current technology levels is unsustainable for six billion people.

I am basing this on a geography textbook I had in my last year in school but I believe there was a study carried out which estimated the carrying-capacity of the world agriculturally speaking at 30 billion people quite easily. Furthermore it took on average 6 times as much land to support cattle as it does to support whatever crops you're growing (I'm presuming they meant nutritionally equivalent but they were dutch so you can never be too sure!)
PS I read in the paper this morning that some people are suggesting firing sulphur into the atmosphere using artilley pieces to reflect sunlight and slow down global warming. One rather hopes the empty shells fall onto their heads to be honest.

Shooting pollution into the atmosphere to slow down global warming caused by pollution, maybe they hope the acid rain will keep people indoors instead of driving around all day.

But could we feed 30 billion Americans? 30 billion Idimmus?

Sure, but I suspect they're talking about 30bn people at UN calorie RDA levels or whatever.

Probably not but I imagine we could feed 6 billion. Thanks to various technological marvels arable land can be created out of effective desert! Or obviously vice versa as demonstrated in various areas across the face of the planet by assholes who haven't managed to move beyond slash and burn agricultural methods.
Edit: The problem here of course is that it's very expensive. One of the more successful arablisation (I made that up!) projects has been in Israel over the past sixty years, using desalinization plants to irrigate coastal areas. Which sort of shows that unless politics gets behind it's unlikely to take off.

Haven't the Dutch reclaimed a significant portion of land with there levee's and dams, and other such devices they've come up with?

Yeah but I didn't want to mention the dutch due to the dutch fallacy.
Edit: The first link I used was
this which then went on to attempt to disprove the netherland's fallacy. However the attempt is mindlessly idiotic because it entirely ignores the fact that the Netherlands was a colonial power and as such achieved advances raising its technological state to a point where it's level of specialisation is possible. This gets even worse because the author's point becomes that you cannot consider anything locally but rather you must consider the world itself. Of course this rather skims over the point that the world itself is overpopulated in the sense of people starving etc.
Worst link I've ever posted.

What does this have to do with Dutch land reclamation?

Re: Whats the stupidest argument you've ever had?
I suspect that quite a lot of effort is going to have to be made to stabalise/maintain (let alone increase) the amount of arable land we have available - if climate change is anything like any of the more negative predictions make out anyway.
And even ignoring the Netherlands fallacy using anywhere in North-West Europe as an example seems a bit weak anyway since the climate is generally more temperate than elsewhere.

It means that it's not as successful as Israel's policy so I didn't use it?

Well, saying "Hey look what we can do" in terms of land management in places with much less harsh climates than elsewhere seems a bit flawed. If the whole world had a climate like Northern Europe then lots of things would be different.

Still doesn't answer what it had to do with Dutch land reclamation, or furthermore land reclamation in general.
It does have to do with overpopulation which you guys were talking about, I'll give you that much.

I dunno dude I just sort of presumed when you quoted my post and said something it'd be a response to my post but if that's not how you work okay.

It was a response, I was responding that I heard the Dutch had reclaimed land with clever use of dams and levees.

I could respond to this post that I heard that ducks go quack but I'd imagine we'd both be fairly confused as to why I'd done so.

I'd probably just laugh.
If I was going for confusing I'd go with dogs go quack.

There's enough irony to choke a dog, but then you wouldn't be able to hear it quack.

Something to give our genetic scientists fun, creating a dog that quacks, just to see if it would echo.

You have learning difficulties regarding spelling and had an argument with someone over how to spell a word correctly and wouldn't admit defeat?

I read on a thread a week or two ago someone typing there posts into Word, then doing spellcheck before copying it to here so that the spelling and grammar errors weren't as noticeable.

You can just use Googlebar's spellcheck, I do sometimes.
