Flashpoints

more and more lately there seems to be a movement by PATeam to adjsut PL to make the game better. As ever there is a multitude of threads and posters that will either speak favouribly for PL or against PL. It's an arguement that has been going on for far too long. To PL or not to PL

Yet PA bounces back and forth between the two without making anything better. You reduce or remove pre launch and the old farts dont get involved. You encourage PL and the game gets played whilst most of the players leep.

Neither of those outcomes are good for the game so i don't see why its worth arguing either of them. We needa new option.

So i suggest flashpoints. Flashpoints are in the control of the devs. Flashpoints could be a multitude of things. A resource bloom. A Roid bloom. An ancient and abandoned stockpile of ships. An ancient race with advanced technology. A mineral stockpile on an overlooked world that has 'unobtanium'. a flashpoint.

Flashpoints could last as long or as short as PaTeam deems valid. Flashpoints are as beneficial or as retarded as PaTeam deems valid. flashpoints are open to all players or all alliances, or some galazies and some alliances as PaTeam deems applicalbe.

Flashpoints could be won by a number of ways of competing. Maybe its the group of people who get the most ships to show up. Maybe its by the most offensive stat wise that show up. Maybe its the most defensive stat wise that show up. Maybe its a bunch of clues dropped in the forums and its the fastest who work it out and show up at a preset destination.

Maybe there could be rewards. Maybe resource awards. Maybe special titles. Maybe credit awards. Who knows, i certainly don't since i don't have that power.

But maybe it could work. Refer to Firebirds post in AD 'another block round' Maybe give everybody something else to do.

I'm not sure how the second half of your post (flashpoints) is related to the first half (prelaunching).

Otherwise, I don't think it'll help much, nor harm much. So, meh, I guess.

I've wanted to see something like this Implimented for rounds. Although I don't think it should be up to the PATeam to decide when and where stuff should happen.

What I would like to see is some mid round events Examples:

1) A Bot galaxy with special roids and special attack conditionsexamples)
Ziks with no more than X value(determined from the t100 avg value table.)
Planets with no more than X roids(determined from the t100 avg roid table.)
Galaxys with a contributing score no more than X(determined from the t10 gal contributing score table)

2) Special Roids Discovery
Planets can Pay X of Each resource(determined by the Tick) to purchase a special asteroid.
+3% enomium mining
+1% CP/Tick
+1% RP/Tick
-1% ship cost

3) Finish out the Quest rewards for advanced/expert/combat tree's.

Our really cool code optimisations seemingly break every single one of these roids. As I learn more and more about databases at work I understand it less and less. Would love them back, would rather not have to recode the ticker and special roids setup to do it though. I guess something to look at again when I have some time.
Might close the beta server off and look sometime soon.

P.s. we tried random events once at a planet level and as they included negative events it got shot down. Some code around for it somewhere....

Just a random idea concerning PL.... How about being able to extend your base PL with a research?? Kind of like how the gates research makes your ships travel faster?? but this research making you able to PL for more ticks?...(not sure if this has been suggested before?)

It hasn't and it's a fair idea; I think I have a different idea for next round though (to be confirmed soon)... to be honest, in-gal defence prelaunch is most useful in the first 100-200 ticks!
