DNS Problems on Win2k Server

I am getting the following message under my DNS Server tab in "Event Viewer"
Unsure exactly what it means but it looks damn important.

Help?! (I made the IP as 111.111.111.11 just incase)

The DNS server is configured to forward to a non-recursive DNS server at 111.111.11.11.

DNS servers in forwarders list MUST be configured to process recursive queries.
Either
1) fix the forwarder (1111.111.111.11) to allow recursion
- connect to it with DNS Manager
- bring up server properties
- open "Advanced" tab
- uncheck "Disable Recursion"
- click OK
OR
2) remove this forwarder from this servers forwarders list
- DNS Manager
- bring up server properties
- open "Forwarders" tab
- remove (111.111.111.11) from list of forwarders
- click OK

Re: DNS Problems on Win2k Server

as the bot says, do as the computer says.

Or get a decent OS, but the first thing will probably work

Re: DNS Problems on Win2k Server

The reason I wasn't following the instructions was because I may knock something out that is needed on my network. I am not totally sure what it means or will do if I was to follow either steps.

Thanks

Re: DNS Problems on Win2k Server

Hmm, okay, make a restore point with the windows util, then change the settings.

If everything then works perfectly, toss the restore point out the window and never look back at it

If everything then proceeds to bugger up, restore with the restore point

Re: DNS Problems on Win2k Server

Speakig to a Network guy he suggested I did a whois and block it if I didn't know who it was.

Now I did a whois and got the below....
Now I went to Properties of DNS and went to Forwarders tabs, i can't remove the IP as I need an IP in there.

It says host unknown, I whoised my server and it says host unknown aswell, not exactly reassuring on the whois command.

Thanks

Code:
whois -h whois.ripe.net:43 193.117.105.11

whois: whois.ripe.net:43: host unknown

Re: DNS Problems on Win2k Server

Fixed this.

Just for those of you who may want to use this as a reference for the future.

The IPs that were displaying were those of my ISP, they had changed their ISPs hence why it came up unknown on a DNS Lookup.

Ta for all your help
