- a new suit
- a wineglass
- 4 bottles of red wine
- 2 home made beercoasters
- 2 home made smaller coasters
- a warm jumper
- a decorative ceramic gingerbread house (wtf?)
The suit was the one thing I wanted, and convinced my father and grandparents to chip in on. The wineglass was quite cool, some weird metal dragon design that my mother picked up for me. The wine will come in handy today. The jumper is cool.
I wish I'd gotten what my brother got as well though. 1 special edition Evil Dead DVD with the cover being a replica of the book of the dead

No family.
I've been invited to about 6 different xmas meals with me m8s and their families.
I never quite realised what utterly fantastic friends i have.

my family consists of three other people.
My mum had a nervous mental breakdown on sunday,
my sister, i havent seen in 6 years since she ran away and stole anything of value in my house she's 22, convicted for theft, GBH, GTA, drug dealing etc etc. a "bad case" currently 7 months pregnant with her second child because she gets more social security money.
My gran, i don't get along with at all.
combine all three in one place yesterday, namely my house, my sister shouting and yelling abuse at me ni my own home, and my gran having called her in.
Mother's in hospital.
Gran i kicked out of my house
Sister i had the police remove from the house and charged with assault.

Lovely. What a nice sentiment. But it's not what the question was, was it?
Just as a reminder the question posed was "so what did you get?". Thus your point is about as useful as an Egyptian camel at a Swedish darts match.

A Minidisk player, some cash (500 € to be exact, my grandfather is rich), then some clothes (obviously), a necklace, a watch (not a rolex, a mere citizen ), and a black belt (I'll be needing one in the near future I hope). And chocolate. Which I cannot eat. And marmoulade.
That roughly covers it.

I did not say I was bitter, I clearly expressed my gratefullness for what I thought was important at xmas time, a feeling that seems all to lost in the mass consumerism of the day. Im not bitter at all, ive had a fantastic day. I was merely trying to get across the point that xmas these days seems all about kiddies getting new toys, and not about things which we should truley be grateful for. Thank you for helping to prove my point. I pity your sadness should the day arrive when you can no longer afford them.

i didnt prove your point though. you say christmas is about being gratefull for being alive and being with your family, great. I've been alive every day of my life, I am gratefull for it. I see my family everyday, love them (even at times when i act otherwise) and am gratefull for having them. Some people arent so lucky, one day they wont be around with me at all, not just christmas - I dont need a special day on my calender to realise this because its somthing I know and acknowlege every day.
The fact is that christmas for me includes exchanging gifts, seeing the smiles on my friends and families when i give them theres and vice versa. I devour a large meal that i helped cook and I clean up the mess. I may go to the pub for a beer with friends, who i see every day, but I'll always come home early and spend the rest of the evening with my family.
I'm not a religious person, and thats fine, christmas isnt just a religious holiday anymore - its an intinational institution. |Even if all religions were abolished tomorrow, there would still be some kind of winter solice on December 25th next year.
As for trying to get your point accross about "xmas these days seems all about kiddies getting new toys", great but i dont care. This is my thread and I didnt ask for your opinions on what christmas has become, I asked what gifts you recieved.
As for the the day arriving when I can no longer afford my 'toys', its here and now bud, if I could afford them I wouldnt have had to wait till christmas would I?

I said i was spoiled. I know i was. I appreciate life, merely because i dont understand it, and have nothing else to hold on to.
Does this mean i cant enjoy luxury?
Like JBOY proved, family isnt everything. Christmas being a time for family is a stereotype. Its just a festival to make us feel good about ourselves, and other people. It has nearly no meaning left. Deal with it. This doesnt make us scum, it makes us human.
And JBOY, it sounds like your coping well with one ****er of a situation. Keep it up. I cant think of the words, but, yknow, kudos, etc. Your doing great. </empathy>

I agree with Raging.Retard to an extent here, but I got to get presents from my family, as well as spending time with them. Christmas was great because I got to spend some time with my family, whom I would seldom see without summer holidays and Christmas. However, it's still nice to have something to show from it all, which I have now, thanks to the presents.
